A span of 7 games. Anyone know what is up here? He logged 12 minutes vs Quinnipiac and hasn't played in a single game since, even when we emptied the bench vs Arkansas. I think he is a great addition to the team and can give some valuable minutes spelling our starting guards to keep them fresh. I am guessing health issues or discipline. Aberdeen hasn't been logging many minutes, so that isn't the reason. Kugel is the only non-starting guard getting any minutes.
If I had to make a guess, the beginning of the season was about getting all the key pieces to mesh and so they played more minutes than ideal. That meant that Aberdeen and Rishwain did not get long auditions. We know that Aberdeen looked quite impressive against the mid-major (or less) competition due to his superior athleticism. Rishwain for some reason was in and the ball never seemed to be driven or passed around the perimeter with precision so that he could shoot the 3 in rhythm. I recall a shot he took somewhat off-balance because the pass wasn't a good one to him. Not much different than when a backup QB gets in a game during the pre-season in say the last 8 minutes of a game, the quality of the play doesn't give you a great audition to do more. And yes, it is plausible that he could be better being the 4th guard than Kugel. But I am going to trust the coaches about what is happening in practice. As an analogy, however, I thought it was a pity that Max Brown did not get enough live fire action during the obvious win games last year so that he would have been more experienced (and live fire coached) when he was needed. The same thing may happen with this team and Rishwain. But we shall see, beginning tonight.
I mean, it shouldn't be a surprise when someone that's logged 61 minutes all season suddenly gets zero minutes when conference play begins. We clearly have tightened the rotation, with Haugh getting less minutes too. We're essentially a 7-man rotation with Haugh and DA getting spot minutes lately.
I hope he can still redshirt this year. Saw him in warmups at the Lakeland game against East Carolina....I know warmups. But he was ridiculous...made like 21/25 3 pointers. I'm sure he didn't come here (his last year) to sit on the bench. I won't go into my rant about Golden Todd's usage (mis-usage) of the roster.
I thought in basketball they weren’t allowed to play in any games if they planned to redshirt. Did they change it?
It’s a turnover issue. He doesn’t have any. With the exception that’s made for Pullin, you don’t play unless you’re a turnover machine.
Redshirting was the plan heading into the season. With the injury last year, I wouldn’t be surprised if the staff gave it a shot, said he wasn’t fully recovered. Six years of eligibility is nothing these days, lol.
Kugel's defense against Reeves yesterday was phenomenal. Reeves was scoreless in OT and had 3 turnovers for the game. I don't think Rishwain would have been able to sustain the effort against Reeves as Kugel did.
Kugel plays the worst man up defense on the team. His feet are always so close together he can never keep his man in front of him.
