Yeah, I've head about highway guard rails, soccer goals. I was at a church in North Jax where someone had cut off and stolen brand new hand rails. There's no telling with this: Racist, someone just wanting to cause trouble, false flag, simple theft ....
I would add that stealing the statue based on a racial motivation and later selling it for scrape are not mutually exclusive. My guess is that if someone took down the statue to make a racial statement he (or they) probably wouldn't want to retain it.
Found in a public park, burned and in pieces. I don't know how to presume that this is not a statement.
Again, it very well could be racists, but I still wouldn’t assume that. Someone steals it for the bronze, starts cutting it up to look less suspicious and make it easier to sell, they see the entire world is looking for the thing and know they can’t sell it now. So they burn it to get rid of prints or dna or other evidence and dump it somewhere. But we will see.
When I was investigating fires in Tampa we had a homeless guy go to the back of a warehouse to look for aluminum cans or anything he could find. The electrical leads entered the building in the back. He decided to pull on one of the main wires entering the building. The wire was aluminum. The pulling caused the wire to short out and started a fire inside that destroyed the entire stock of medical supplies. The loss was over a million. The guy received flash burns but not a shock. A shock probably would have killed him. He was transported to the hospital with 3rd degree flash burns. My partner while doing an exterior survey during the investigation found the damage. We called around to the local hospitals and found out a guy was transported by one of our rescue vehicles the night before. They should have let us know about the burns as all are to be reported to investigations for follow-up. People will steal anything metal to scrap. Someone stole the aluminum vase off my mom’s grave stone.
An arrest was made but police say it wasn't a hate crime and he was just trying to sell it for scrap... An arrest has been made in the theft of a Jackie Robinson statue later found dismantled and burned (msn.com)
Glad to know it likely was not a hate crime. I thought all the stories said more than one individual was involved. Be good to get all info out.
Pretty much what I expected. Someone who hates Jackie wasn’t gonna spend an hour tearing it apart and devising a plan to transport it somewhere. There are a thousand easier ways to show hate than that. Still sad though. People are just crazy these days.
Yep, some folks trying to pick up a few bucks on stolen "metals" (not a racist motive). Or thats what is being reported. Perhaps these guys can hit the Statue of Liberty next time. More weight.
