Solid hire. Auburn hires DJ Durkin as defensive coordinator: Ex-Maryland coach ran Texas A&M defense in last two seasons Last season, the Aggies’ defense was 3rd in the SEC in total defense as it gave up 316 yards per game. The defense was also 5th in the SEC in scoring defense at 22.1 points per game. In his first season at Texas A&M, Durkin’s defense led the nation allowing the fewest passing yards per game at 156.2. The Aggies held opponents under 150 yards through the air in six games, including three games under 100 yards.
I met him once after he was let go at UF..nice guy..had positive things to say about UF Wasn't there something about him and Maryland tho?
Yes. A player died in 2018 and he was subsequently fired from the backlash of pushing players too hard. I’m sure that’s why UF didn’t look at him for our DC position.
It was pretty messy, but more in the backlash and him losing the team than from actual evidence of anything that Durkin did IMO.
I’m sure Durkin will call the plays but They hired Charles Kelly, who is terrible, as co-dc earlier this offseason so hopefully they bring out the worst in each other
Quite the journey, from HC at Maryland to analyst for falcons to ole miss DC to a&m DC to Auburn all in 6 yrs. Keeping the wife busy.
It happened in the summer... when the S&C coach was coaching them and conditioning them. The real dust-up was that he was coaching his team for more hours a day than the NCAA allows for... and the players rebelled.
