I won't be back at practices until next Friday at the earliest. This is my time of year to get company and go visiting before the season starts. Everyone knows to not bother me from the middle of February to the end of June!

I told everyone I'd pin this thread and everyone can add their own reports/insights. All info is welcome!

Not hardly.:D It was more like.... Mummau hits a wounded duck to right. Three Gators converge but it lands exactly where no one can get it. Second basemen picks ball up, wipes off the blood, and throws the ball in.... But that's hard to say during the action.

FYI I don't recall any hit batters. Seems like I recall one wild pitch that ricocheted off the bricks but no one was on. No triples but very few hits either way other than Cags hard hit double to RCF. I guess the ball Evans could not get to near the corner would also be a double, even though they threw out the runner that was on first who rounded the bases and was thrown out at home. Someone with speed, like the way Langford played LF last year would have made it look easy.

Too bad no one can give us an update on the Saturday or Sunday practice.

Here's an update for everyone who used to complain about no shade at the Mac: Row 3 already was in the shade when I arrived and FROST immediately began to form on my body. After half a freezing inning, I moved around to beyond the 3B dugout to a seat in the beautiful sunshine and was reasonably comfortable.

Also, Dale Thomas had a triple to the wall, perfectly placed between CF and RF, could only admire it. Poor Slater got bombed and gave up 5 runs in an inning.

Lol....always said I had more times freezing at the Mac than being hot

Heard Thomas had 2 off the wall.
    Evans got dinged.
Shelton had a bad day offense and defense.
McNeilie solid start, Slater hammered as you said
Young guys like Mummau, Brookins, Yost and Martinez have played well

I still worry about Shelton at short, Thomas is easing my concerns about 3rd.

Probably gonna take some awful big screwups to push Shelton’s bat out of the lineup.

I might get details wrong but I remember a game at the Mac that went at least to the bottom of the ninth and maybe also to extras that was so cold that I didn't care who won the game as long as it was over. It must have been in the 30's. With wooden bats there would be killer bees in your hands for anything hit off the handle.

Buddy Reed either hit the game winner or scored the game winner. I just wanted to go home and get warm and the Gators winning was a plus.

Now for being too hot the Mac used to give away ice and had misting stations for people to cool off especially on Sunday games late in the season. They don't do that at the new stadium.

    That must be it.

Not sure how I got home because the rest of my cohort left innings before. Probably walking on clouds.

This was an early season game on a Saturday in 1985 for me and my kid. It was in the 40s that afternoon, but we were well-bundled, including a blanket. The pic made the front page of the Sun the next day and my wife used it for years as proof that I didn't have enough sense to keep the kid out of the freezing cold. He still takes my side that baseball fan training should begin as early as possible. We were sitting near the top of the old wooden bleachers on the LF line, that had been football east stands and later south stands The nice concrete Mac still was three years away. Not many years later, he was a star at chasing down foul balls- the other kids hated him for getting too many.
