Publix is crazy expensive. A lot of what used to go BOGO is now buy two get one, and even true bogos aren’t all that great anymore given the higher base prices + shrinkflation. I find that Sam’s ordinary, non-sale prices beats out BOGOs on most items. Meat/produce quality is better at Sam’s as well. The main selling point now for Publix is their deli and pharmacy. I generally won’t go unless I have something to pick up from one of those.
That's a hell of a spin. That state has been run into the ground by so called conservatives since the beginning of time. Just admit it.

The Harrison county board of supervisors appoints one seat, which voted 62% Republican in 2020 and the other board seat is appointed by the city of Gulfport which is also in Harrison county. All Republican controlled areas. But it's the liberal haven counties controlling the barges and raising prices! Another conservative boogeyman....
I now go to Walmart grocery 12 minutes away (vs Publix 2 minutes away). For stuff not in aisles Publix is better quality (ie deli, meats), but comparing aisles Walmart much more worth it
As you said to each their own but it isn't. 25c on a loaf. It's literally $1 for the same quality of item at times. Add that up over several items and yeah, their fleecing people but they are doing it to people who choose it for the convenience. Also, it's not about pissing in cereal but some of us remember when publix was able to operate with the same quality of service and selection along with very fair prices. Often times they were one of the most inexpensive options in the 90s and early 2000s.
This right here. I order from Walmart+ a lot because the service is free if you have a certain AmEx card. Pepsis for example are usually priced anywhere from $6.50 to $6.98 for a 12-pack. They are $9.79 at Publix. Stop with the stuff is only a quarter to a dollar more at Publix. Things true in 1990 are no longer true sometimes.
Yeah, soda was the one I legit couldn't believe when I went over Christmas. A 6 pack of bottles is like $5-7 (depending on location and sales) around here and was $9 at Publix.
Publix has increased their amount of employees and have moved to customer service and into pharmacy. Convenience along with the others I mentioned is worth it to me. If price is so important there is Publix brand bread for a lot less cost. Many of their brands are good quality with one example being their mayonnaise. I don’t consider it fleecing as no one has to shop there. Do some of you think you are a Publix victim? I know it’s a discussion but it’s gotten to the point where it’s obvious some of you just don’t like the company for whatever reason.
I think the BOGO still beat the “warehouse clubs” on most things. I hate buying food items in bulk, some of those packaging sizes are just crazy to me. We’d never go through it before it goes bad/stale. But Publix definitely started getting sneakier with B2G1 and B2G2. I was noticing that before the pandemic, but i assume that post pandemic inflation caused some action (where certain big food suppliers were probably squeezing them). My policy for the most part is Publix for most “fresh” foods. Warehouse clubs or wal-mart for packaged stuff or non-food where Pubiix tends to rip you off.
My local Publix has gotten really bad with having empty shelves. I may check another to see if it's just the particular store. My son just moved to Columbia, MO and I was really impressed with the Hy-Vee chain. Well stocked, excellent non-aisle offerings, and noticeably cheaper than Publix. I'm not really interested in a hybrid (visiting more than one store) approach to my grocery shopping. I'm open to other stores, but I'm not sure the quality or selection is as good. Target doesn't seem to have all items for one visit. I'm not interested in buying in bulk. And getting my groceries at Walmart means I'd have to go in a Walmart and attempt to checkout in under 30 minutes (always seems to be a painful experience).
Wal mart pickup is a great thing. We buy meat from publix but almost everything else is a Wal mart pickup,Aldi or a local produce mart. Best thing about the pickup is that if they don't have an item they will substitute it for a name brand item of the same for the price of the generic.
WRT Publix pricing being higher than other grocery retailers, I don’t understand why anyone cares …. or would be miffed at/by it. I guess it akin to selecting a new car. Some folks choose to buy a Mercedes Sedan and burn tier one gas in it when ….. a Mitsubishi Mirage burning the cheapest gas available can accomplish the same thing. I enjoy the convenience and “pleasure” of patronizing the neighborhood Publix far more than having to schlep across town to shop at a big-box retailer or membership club for groceries. I’ve rarely if ever have a problem finding what I want at a Publix.
I mean you seem just as offput that people actually have reasons they don't like the direction Publix has gone. I can't cite numbers of employees but the new Publix in our area now have self-checkouts. If you like their brands that's great, I understand, I like some as well however paying a dollar more for a can of beans, loaf of bread or several other items isn't worth it for many.
And yet others can't understand why some seem so bothered or perplexed that some don't enjoy paying more for the same item at Publix when there are convenient alternatives. "Schlep across town..." Bizzare melodramatic description right there. It's as if Publix fans need to take shots at people for having their own preferences. Just weird. I mean, people voice criticisms about Publix and then the response is to criticize the people for not liking publix.
I blame Publix so being so much better than the alternatives in my area that I’m forced to pay their outrageous prices.
I don't see this thread as taking shots at anyone not happy with Publix, but I do see a lot of name calling om Publix," Fleecing their customers", "Corporate profit grab". To each is own, if you are willing to pay more for your education you attend UF not some other wannabe school. Is UF fleecing it's students?
Where are you seeing they increased their employees? They just put self checkout in the one closest to my house and now always have fewer manned registers open than previously.
