I only block trolls or people not interested in honest discussion. It makes the board more enjoyable.
Although I don't block anyone there are however a number of posters that I do not take seriously and instead consider them providers of comic relief.
Finally, we agree on something. Congratulations on your first comment of 2024 not mentioning Trump, we all know this was a big step for you.
I'm only aware of one person blocking me and I'm perfectly fine with that. He doesn't deserve to be educated by my brilliant comments. I have never put someone on ignore no matter what I think of their posts.
Im here to report it is not going well. One poster wants to “breed” immigrants and suggested he celebrated MLK with fried chicken and 5151 more bad posts. Another poster hasn’t posted anything sensible since I dugged him off ignore either. When do I get a payback for reading this tripe?
I block trolls, fools and Russian puppets. Not only do I get the benefit of not having to read these worthless trash posts, but I am also much more likely not to respond negatively to their nonsense. Negative posts makes TH less pleasant for everyone. So sorry, but I will keep the blocks.
I had quite a few on block/ignore and I removed them all awhile back. Only two of them reminded me of why I ignored them in the first place. Rest have been cool.
From the outside, it appears that you find virtually all other posters beneath engaging with. It must be that over half of your posts are simply quick condescending zingers, like this one. Here are some more just from today: Perhaps it seems like these people’s ideas are so infantile that they only deserve ridicule, but I would say it’s hard to know if you never engage them. And your posts display a stark lack of curiosity. For all the hundreds of posts of yours Ive seen, I don’t recall you ever asking an honest question. Like “Hey GatorRade, how did you come to believe that?” Maybe blocking is cowardly, but it might instead be that people prefer having two way conversations.
I’m pretty sure that it’s because: (A) I dissent from the herd and (B) I return snark for snark while doing it. I surmise that people block when they become annoyed that the voices echoing back are not their own.
I agree that on average people like to have their views affirmed, but this can’t be all there is or this whole forum wouldn’t even exist. As for snark for snark, I’d humbly suggest your level of snark toward me exceeds mine toward you (though I am open to the possibility that I have been unintentionally snarky towards you, in which case I’d appreciate your help in steering me to correct that.) Anyway, here’s another view that would be at least as consistent with the observed reality on these boards: People would like to engage with other perspectives unless those divergent ideas are accompanied by snark and without any reciprocal curiosity I’ve been quite fond of some posters with opposed visions, because they just made exchange enjoyable regardless of disagreement. Just my two cents.
I can appreciate this. I could stand to rein it in more. But just to cite one example, have had other forumers threaten to report you to the FBI for being a Putin troll ?
