How about a special teams coach? Does he need one of those, too, or is that going swimmingly?

True enough! But, we are finally moving in the right direction. I was listening to a radio program on Sirius XM recently, and they said they believe the TP may take precedence over recruiting. They reasoned that the TP has proven players, whereas CFB doesn't always know what they're getting in a recruit. Schools such as Ohio State are way ahead of us!

Not to mention as our old friend De La Torre notes, being a “fired college football coach” is a better job than being a “college football coach.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’d want to actually be good.

But if I were in a college coach’s position and I fail, a few dozen millions to stop coaching for that school would make that blow much nicer. Especially considering that not many fired coaches at big programs are denied another opportunity if they want one.

I doubt this link stays here for long. So, go to YouTube, Hard Count ON3, JD Pickell, what's next for Florida, Billy Napier in year three. I think Pickell's spot on. What's your take?

Win at least 8 games and show wholesale improvement in D, ST, clock management.
    That’s what’s needed.

Don’t lose to the teams UF shouldn’t lose to(like a winless in the SEC Arky at home with a new OC).

Absolutely. I was talking about the plan - waiting for 5 years is not it

We should see significant improvement in ALL areas; but, that is dependent upon several factors: improved OL play, improved defense, and a healthy Mertz for the season. What does it mean if one of these fails?

If our defense can hold teams to the 20 point area or so, we should win 7 games, maybe 8.

Let's just hope he doesn't lose to any of the other Florida schools. All three? Ouch

That sounds right. Will our defense be able to do that is the question?

Yeah, that's the thing. I'm so jaded since Grantham. We would get a freshman or a transfer and they would play well but then they always seemed to regress the next season after they had been "coached" by the staff. Almost would have rather they played by instinct.

Yes, and that's what baffled me--is it the talent level, the coaching, or both? Under shark man and his replacement, we suffered from mostly bad recruiting--especially, defensively. And I bet some brilliant person can figure out how many years we have been discussing poor tackling on this forum.

It may take five years for you to be happy. Patience grasshopper. He may still be losing and gone but lay off on the rollaids, it’s not good for you.

And we CANNOT lose to all 3 teams from FL (Miami, UCF, FSU). I can't imagine many nightmares worse than that.

I honestly don't think Napier is on the hot seat in year 3, but he will be if we have another losing season. So what needs to happen in Year 3? Just win more games than you lose.

Nearly every coach has to win a set number of games to keep their job.

How many coaches could survive a 0 win season next year? Kirby and? Probably nobody else?

So the question is how many he has to win. 0-3 he’s fired, 4 to 5 is dicey, 6+ he’s safe.

But someone like Norvell isn’t much different. He’s fired if he goes winless
