I work corporately for Publix pharmacy so I’m biased, BUT… CVS and Walgreens got cracked down on big time a few years ago for filling so many opioids, so inevitably a lot of that business ended up at Publix, many of which were legitimately filled by legitimate doctors for those with a legitimate diagnoses. When you’re one of the few not under DEA investigation, fill numbers will go up. When I was a Publix pharmacist at retail, I never filled anything I wasn’t comfortable with, as did many others, so I can only speak from first hand experience.
Aldi, Walmart, Winn Dixie, target, Costco, SAMs club, and numerous others like fresh market close by. I still prefer Publix. All it takes is one more option to avoid Publix.
Yeah, that stuff exists most places that people live in the US in addition to multiple competing grocery stores (heck, I listed Aldi and Target in addition to their top competitors in Lidl and Wal-Mart). Club shops, general retailers, and discount grocery stores are not really direct competitors. What is different in Florida is that there aren't multiple competing grocery stores. Unsurprisingly, that allows the main grocery store to charge very high prices, as we see in this data (and which I have also observed).
Yep. We got our two In Wilmington and I was stoked. A little pricy, but really no worse than Harris Teeter or Lowes Foods here and Food Lion is getting sneaky pricy too. But I can get Sonny's sauce and a Pub Sub so I'm down.

It could be that states with large cities have a larger problem with theft from grocery stores, and therefore the stores have to charge more. Also, there are a lot of lonely elderly people in Florida that respond well to employees who are friendly and treat them well, which is what Publix tries to do.
Publix has lots of employees that help make your shopping experience better. That means something to many shoppers. And their selection of items is excellent. Add in a pharmacy and you have one stop shopping. Avoiding the hassles is worth paying more. I’d rather not spend my time driving around town to save 25 cents on a loaf of bread. Each to their own.
Yep, I note that liberal/progressive Mississippi is the third most expensive state. Combine that with probably the lowest per capita state income. Those damn liberals.
Interesting, I've never found Kroger to be cheaper and typically hate their store layouts ( at least the ones near us). We have a publix and Kroger near by along with Aldi and Traders. We do like publix bogos, sweet tea and cleanliness. No other grocery compares in my book. I leave Walmart/Costco shopping to my wife, not a fan.
Publix is closest to me and more convenient so that’s where I mostly go. Lots of bogo on stuff we use. Wife prefers WalMart or Target for prices but my time is more valuable than the extra 20-$30.
Jackson has a lot of liberals. Hinds County went 74% Biden. In fact, if you look at a map of MS 2020 Election results, you will see almost every county lining the Mississipp are true blue liberal counties. So the grocery prices there being high makes sense. The liberals regulate the hell out of the product coming off the barges. It just costs more to buy groceries in a state where the liberals control the ports along the river.

Are you under the impression that it is the 1800s? Because food isn't generally delivered by barge to grocery stores all along the river...
