Probably because the White House Medical Unit is under the Department of Defense.

 

Even the DoD answers to the DEA when it comes to prescription drugs.

 

True. But this was an inspector general report. Basically, someone must have asked: “what’s up with all these harder drugs here and how come they aren’t being tracked properly?”. If there is evidence of criminal wrongdoing by someone running the office it could get referred, but the inspector general looking into it is basically more like an audit than a criminal investigation.

 

It is amazing how in all things Trump so many struggle mightily to come up with alternative explanations to avoid admitting a reality that is obvious.
