MSNBC: Trump is Running a Disciplined Campaign. That Should Worry Democrats.

I certainly marvel at the support he gets.

 

And that it far exceeds a political preference into what can best be described as adulation or worship.

 

I don’t know. It would seem that if believing that the nomination of a different candidate might have changed the outcome of an election bars that group from complaining about the outcome, complaints would never be permitted for any election in history.

 

A couple of comments. First, I would agree that Trump's Republican primary campaign is much more professional and organized than was his primary campaign in 2016 and giving him credit where credit is due he has been especially effective at "persuading" the overwhelming majority of Republican officeholders to fall in line behind him even including officeholders who owe their political careers to Nikki Haley, Tim Scott and Nancy Mace coming immediately to mind. Where it not for Nikki Haley's decision to appoint Scott to a vacant Senate seat when she was governor he most likely would have remained a political unknown and the betrayal by Nancy Mace is even more blatant than that by Scott. Back when she still had the capability to think independently Mace took Trump to task for his role in the attempted insurrection of January 6, 2021. Never one to pass up an opportunity for retribution Trump tried to punish Mace by "primarying" her. He actively supported her opponent in the 2022 Republican primary while Haley campaigned on behalf of Mace. Mace showed her gratitude by endorsing Trump before the New Hampshire primary. My guess is that Trump coerced Mace by threatening to primary her again and as the party's presidential nominee he would have more influence than he did during the mid-term.

I would also add that what works well in a primary campaign will not be nearly as effective in a general election campaign. They're very different operations with different electorates.

 

Trump's 2016 campaign was an uphill battle against traditional GOPers in the primary and then an established politician in the general to whom he lost the popular vote.

His 2020 and 2024 campaigns are as a known commodity. It's a lot easier from the jump, though he tries to make it difficult with his idiocy.

BTW, only one of the 2 2024 presidential candidates had a Chinese bank account and it wasn't Biden. Only one of the candidates doesn't verbally kneel in front of Xi and it isn't Biden.

 

He's even said phrases like, "they won't let me do that" when asked questions that he was NOT ready for. Who is they?

Please stop talking about Biden and China... we all know how Biden's crime family is tied to that communist regime. President Trump actually put tariffs on China... something that even Elon Musk is asking for.

 

Trump does appear to be running a disciplined campaign. But he did let his guard down when an old woman accused him of raping her, decades ago, and he said, “No I didn’t. You’re a nut job”, and so a judge ruled he wasn’t allowed to defend himself and had to pay the old woman $83 million.

 

And there is also documentation that one of the presidential candidates was actually paid by the Chinese during his term in office and it wasn't Biden and before a certain poster raises the issue the fact that Trump owned the building in which the Chinese leased office space doesn't erase or excuse that fact even if the arrangement was originally a legitimate business transaction.

Calling an election over 10 months out is foolish. Heck, this time two years ago, many were predicting a giant, red wave. How did that prediction turn out?

And plenty of potential chinks in Trump's armor. Including turning off many Haley supporters recently. Trump is going to need their vote to win.

There's also recent and future court cases for Trump. These cases and rulings may galvanize the base, but what do swing voters see? If they see a petulant child with no impulse control, that's not going to win them over.

Meanwhile, if the economy continues on the current path, those attacks on Biden will become less and less effective. Stocks are at record levels, unemployment near historic lows, and wage gains are catching up to recent inflation, which now looks to be under control. If the Fed drops interest rates in March as expected, the question for swing voters will be what could Trump do differently that would be an improvement over current conditions?

It's still early, and Trump may have a slight lead now. But there's a large enough number of undecided that Trump will need to win over between now and November. And Biden has an inside track in my opinion.
