Nice! Definitely need an extra big, especially through the SEC grind. Let’s see how many minutes he gets
No doubt, shimmy playing thirty minutes like Handlogten could get 10 pts and defend better, oh well. CTG needs to learn, it’s a grind and you need shooters from the bigs, not just rebounds and a few tip ins. Shimmy and Condon can deliver if he would develop a half court offense other than hero ball.
MSU presents a great opportunity for the Shimmer-aya. Stay spotted up behind the arc, big man, and draw Smith out da paint.
Being clearer to play and actually playing appear to be 2 very different things. Wonder if we’re redshirting him.
I thought we might see him last night cause Smith, but our bigs / coach did a good job keeping the fouls down and spread across the bigs.
We are ranked 18th in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency. You can’t do that without a very good half court offense and just by playing hero ball.
Well, was he practicing previosly? Maybe “cleared to play” just meant he was cleared to full go/full contact in practice? Might as well redshirt him, barring an injury. Although it would be interesting to see if his game progressed from last year. I believe he’s allowed to play few games and still redshirt? The problem (for him getting minutes) is we have a deep rotation already.
We played better half court offense (focused on it, Thxs coach) for most of the game. Pullen got the calming effect going while still getting everyone to move around and get open. The last five minutes of the game we just stood there then drove in like hero ball. MSU started getting close, as all our forced shots never found the net. We will get better on this or we will be a quick out in he SEC and if our record is weak at that point, could cause us to miss the big dance due to a tough conference with a lot of very good coaches. Last night showed we could play good defense and still run and even came out focused that we had to get better in half court. Lots to work on, bringing the ball inbounds with pressure and what to do when we break it. Hopefully we work on the bigs shooting threes, as we will need this type of scoring also when we play tough defensive teams like Tenn, SC, Ole Miss.
Unless we are really blowing someone out, or a big gets injured or they all get in foul trouble, I doubt we see him this year. Heck, Hauch is hardly getting minutes anymore. CTG has shortened the bench at this point. Mostly rotating the three bigs at the 4 and the 5.
As I say, 5 fouls are 5 fouls. Just needs to use them the entire game and not in 5 minutes. Block out for rebounds, act stout when the opponent posts up (or tries to) and the rest is gravy.
Does it seem we have a plethora of 7-footers in the SEC this season? Most years, there aren't more than one or two.
