Random question as I sit here twiddling my thumbs, one that hopefully brings out some positive responses/memories of yore. Of all the seasons you remember and recall, which team or season sticks with you the most? Obvious answers would be ‘96, ‘06, and ‘08, and those are perfectly good answers. But for me, that ‘01 team will always resonate with me. I loved that team. I’m incredibly nostalgic for the Spurrier years and that team was so much fun to watch with Sexy Rexy just slingshotting the ball to Gaffney, Caldwell, Jacobs, and the boys. No, they didn’t win a championship. Yes, they had some extremely unfortunate luck. But I would still put that team up against anybody on a given day.
Whoops, sorry. Meant to post this in SwampGas. Created a new thread over there. Mods, feel free to delete this one if able. Apologies.
Whatever the season was that we had the sudden emergence of the 04's in basketball. They challenged the football team to win it all after they won it all. I think it was 06-07. The hype of Urban coming to town accompanied by Billy putting it all together in BBall was incredible. I was at UF at the time and it was glorious!
1984, Pell assembled a squad that among the starting 22 were all NFL Caliber, they were physical between the tackles on offense, and intimidating on defense.
1991, my junior year. That win over FSU was a thing of beauty. Casey Weldon took an all time beating. That D line was nasty and dominating!
Probably '96 as the acc refs let fsu hit DW constantly after the whistle, then the CFB gods worked miracles for that rematch where SOS absolutely embarrassed BB! Beating your biggest to 2nd biggest rival for the Chip can't be topped for me.
2008. Went to the championship game in Miami and watched two Heisman QBs battle it out. Best memory is Ahmad Black stealing the ball like a thief from an OU receiver. Second best is Tebow getting his one-and-only personal foul doing a Gator chomp.
I don’t know if that was THE best feeling as a Gator, but it was pretty damn close. Blanking UGA 27-0 and Auburn 24-3 in back to back weeks was special! ‘96 watching with my father, who was a UF grad ‘65 grad was pretty special. I’ll take that. It was one of the 7 greatest nights of my life.
Loved the 98 team which i think was the best defensively i’ve seen and FELT was dominant. I’m only 37 so take that for what it’s worth
I like that. That’s an underrated team. Big “what if” if Tony George doesn’t get ejected from the FSU game during the pre-game brawl. I always laugh when I think of that brawl though because allegedly Doug Johnson tried to peg Bowden with a football.
Yup. Excluding the natty seasons 91 was my favorite. I find it hard to pick any season where we lost to a rival. The Syracuse game sucked because we saw the letdown coming and yet they still let it happen. The notre dame game was disappointing but it wouldn't have changed anything. Blowing out Bama at home. Beating Tennessee at home at night. Beating Georgia a second time in a row. And the most brutal hard fought game at the end with a Florida win over fsu was just so satisfying. Obviously the first official, not stolen back SEC title. It was a fun year.
If I had to throw one in outside the obvious, 1990. First, SOS’s first year, seeing that offense was magical. The first drive against OSU where we went 70 yards in 5 plays heralded a new era. The crowd was in shock. And second because that was the fall of the Rolling murders. Folks that weren’t there then will never understand the role football played in bringing the entire school back.
The Oklahoma State Coach’s show where they review that game used to be on YouTube (could still be). It was pretty amusing.
Entertaining to watch. Thanks. Play it at 1.25 speed. Their coach was effusive with his praise for the stadium, crowd and Florida overall. Our defense swarmed. A few hits from both sides that would be penalties today. Miss those days. Our dark blue uniforms were slick. Wish they'd bring those back. Interesting the goal posts were wider then. I believe they were made more narrow like the NFL in the offseason which lead to the infamous wide right number 1 for fsu the very next year. Had they been the same distance apart the kick would have been good lol.
