Yeah, I think we need Donald Trump aka King Dick back in control of things. The free-for-all under Biden has been a disaster. I'd rather have a jerk for a POTUS who implements effective policy than a guy who tries to act congenial (even though deep down, he's anything but congenial) and implements a chaotic policy at the border.
Those awful Biden policies must be why unemployment is near historic lows again, inflation is now under control and wage growth is outpacing inflation again, and GDP grew 3.3% last quarter, beating the projected 2%. What a total disaster!
Tell your GOP buddies to stop listening to Trump who needs a campaign issue and quit blocking the bipartisan Senate bill about the border.
Do Democrats have any similar issues to the border that they complain about endlessly but don't try to fix? Genuine question.
The one that Trump did nothing to solve? I've posted the CATO article several times. But here's a similar one from Bloomberg. Legal arrivals declined during his administration while illegal entries remained steady -- and he left behind a ton of unresolved asylum cases. And why did Trump do nothing to slow undocumented immigration other than spew racist rhetoric? Because Trump's economic advisors told him doing so would be an economic catastrophe. Biden and his advisors know this too. They also know when it push comes to shove, people will vote with their wallet. So these great economic numbers we're seeing under Biden? If he tries to secure a border that is impossible, it will only cause the economy to struggle. There is no fix that would "secure" our border. Israel has a 400 mile wall and a much better reason to keep people out than we do. Their wall failed spectacularly. Our border is 5X longer, and much more difficult to defend. What we need to do is make the migration more orderly. But a secure border? That's a pipe dream that will never happen, and attempting to do so will do a lot more harm than good. As for safety? Again, even the Trump DOJ knew undocumented immigrants weren't that dangerous. The Trump DOJ put out this report in 2020 showing undocumented immigrants commit significantly less crime than citizens. Wonder why they published it quietly?
The gop would rather use the border issue as a cudgel than actually solve it. Shit or get off the pot.
Mike Johnson has gone on record to say that Trump is calling the shots on their refusal to deal with border. Speaker Mike Johnson says he speaks with Trump 'frequently' about border negotiations
Abortion has proven a strong ally for Biden when its the only thing on the ballot but I'm not sure it carries the day with a backdrop of the challenges at the border, interest rates not coming down as quickly as predicted (no way there are 5-6 rate cuts in 2024) and the ongoing war in Ukraine and the a potentially expanding conflict in the middle east. Unless something changes I think Trump wins as well although the polls will tighten between now and November absent a Black Swan type of event.
I dunno. I see a lot of fretting and hand-wringing from Democrats, and there seems to be a constant stream of guys like Carville and Axelrod sounding the alarms.
And Haley would crush Biden too according to some polling. Yet my stupid side of the aisle cant stop tripping over the orange slob.
The Biden campaign's biggest obstacle will be mobilizing turnout among younger voters. Low turnout among those voters was the primary reason that Hillary Clinton lost to Trump in 2016. They were so pissed off at Clinton and the DNC for what they perceived as mistreatment of Bernie Sanders that enough of them either stayed home or voted for a third-party candidate to throw the election to the Orange One. If the early polls are an indication it could happen again. Hopefully Biden's strategists will have enough sense to mobilize that demographic through the message that the perfect should not be the enemy of the good and even they're disappointed in Biden the alternative would be far worse. Some examples. While they may be pissed off that the Biden is supporting Israel what they could get by staying home is a president who will be a sycophant of Benjamin Netanyahu who is absolutely opposed to an Palestinian state in contrast to Biden's pressure for a 2-state solution. Similarly, while they're opposed to Biden's approval of the Willow project allowing more drilling on the North Slope of Alaska and the Louisiana LNG terminal what they get if Biden is defeated is a president completely in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry who almost certainly lift any restrictions on the sale of leases and new drilling on federal land and who will probably eliminate any incentives for the adoption of renewables currently in place.
trump prefers to have the border issue to campaign on rather than have Congress do anything meaningful about it. “I think the border is a very important issue for Donald Trump. And the fact that he would communicate to Republican senators and congresspeople that he doesn't want us to solve the border problem because he wants to blame Biden for it is really appalling. …… Mitt Romney.
Bullshit. Most important problem facing the U.S. 2023 | Statista Most Important Problem And before you malign the source: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/statista/ Like I said, folks have been emotional about abortion as a standalone issue. TBD how many legs it has when weighed against a larger set of problems.
I think what City us getting at is that people say they care about the border, but do they truly care? For the border to be the #1 or #2 issue among Iowa caucus voters is quite frankly ridiculous. The odds that that many Iowans lives are impacted by border issues is next to zero. They care because Fox News or Trump tells them to care. We've had the same border issues for a long time but it seems that half the country only cares when (1) it's an election year or (2) a Dem is in office. It's all BS anyway. Biden could build a 100 foot wall with lasers and an alligator moat and he's still not winning over a single Iowa voter who listed the border as their number one issue. Those people already have their mind made up and they're picking reasons to justify their position - not the other way around.
