I wonder if that still goes on today. Kids nowadays are a different breed and would probably get offended and all that. We just heckled and laughed at them back then.
Don't scholarship athletes get access to healthcare, insurance and stuff that non scholarship players can't get?
They get access to a ton of stuff that non scholarship players don’t. The list goes on and on. Some stuff the non scholly players are allowed to pay their own way for.
the staff in place to book and manage all these things? They're paid regardless so that wouldn't count towards the scholarship compensation package. No way is it close to the $200K.
That staff is not for non scholarship athletes. They don’t have access to these people who handle all of their day to day stuff. Your third party NIL walk on fund would have to offer all these things on their own. Non scholarship athletes don’t have the same access to all the nutritionists, dietitians, or round the clock free meals either. All stuff that absolutely should be considered if you’re talking about trying to lure kids here without any scholarship benefits. Scholarship football players at UF get a whole lot more than just tuition. Hell, just the place they house them at is around 20k/yr. One of my buddies kids just filled out an application to rent there. 1900/mo for a 1br is what he was quoted.
It’s cheaper to let them go to class for free tgan actually pay the tuition I’d think. It’s just a chair in a class or maybe even just a laptop. There would certainly be no reason to have 86 if you can’t get 85 good ones.
While that idea is ridiculous (self reporting to fire with cause), I don’t think any rivals are scared of BN at this juncture.
If they were on the team they would have access to the same things the rest of the team did, save the housing perhaps.
No they don’t. Walk ons have to pay their own way to participate in all kinds of things, or they’re not allowed to participate. They do not get all the scholarship benefits unless they’re on scholarship.
"We believe that this violation should be viewed more as a procedural issue, as opposed to a tampering violation," Colorado claimed in reporting the mishap to the NCAA. “All minor in nature”.. Colorado self-reports 11 minor NCAA violations committed during coach Deion Sanders' debut season
I dont think thats accurate but since I dont have any experience as a walk on, i'll have to defer to your knowledge as a walk-on. 1900/mo for a 1br doesnt. Seems like there are less expensive alternatives given that football players usually have multiple people in a unit.
One of my cousins married a guy who was a walk on at uf. His brother was a scholarship player. There’s a ton of stuff that he didn’t have access to that his brother did. Some things he was allowed to participate in, but had to pay his own way. Some stuff he just wasn’t included in. It was a vastly different experience for the two of them. Are you going to bundle up your non scholarship NIL only players and house them together? Where? At the same place as the scholarship players? Who is going to organize that, and pay for it?
I doubt the punter you reference got much of an NIL offer from our collective, if he got one at all. We don't need a punter in 2024, and punters rarely command high dollar. I think he got a scholly to Cal-Berkeley, with whatever that entails, and got little or nothing from UF. Good reason for him to go there.
When I went to a major ACC college in the mid 90s (not FSU) all the athletes lived in dorms, rode the campus bus, and one of the basketball players used to cut my hair for $5 to make some pocket money. Things have really changed.
I’m pretty sure that on Gatorfred’s phone all the little icons at the bottom of the screen are all “come on man”s
