It's not pretty what Gator big 2 athletics have become -- we were the jealousy of the league, but now if you combine wins from both basketball and football from SEC games only, we are 11 of 14 teams in Win %!
only Miss State, Arkansas, and Vandy are worse than us.
Mid way through Jan, we have a total of 4 wins in football and basketball and 8 loses.

At some point you have to wonder if there is an institutional problem.....

    School Total win %
    Alabama 100
    Georgia 91.66667
    Louisiana State 72.72727
    Mississippi 72.72727
    Tennessee 58.33333
    Auburn 54.54545
    Missouri 50
    Kentucky 45.45455
    South Carolina 41.66667
    Texas A&M 41.66667
    Florida 33.33333
    Mississippi State 18.18182
    Arkansas 16.66667
    Vanderbilt 0

For those dejected Gator fans, please remember baseball season is less than one month away. And if you need a fix sooner than that, all baseball practices are open to the public and start on Jan 26th.

I've never celebrated combined SEC winning percentages between the two sports; I'm not sure I'm ready to beat myself up over this stat when things don't look so good.

    Look on the bright side.

By not looking totally inept against FSU on the gridiron we probably kept them away from the football championship play-offs which they didn't deserve anyways.

I love Gator baseball. But it's got bad when we have to say wait until baseball season. Lol.

I'd prefer to remember basketball where we beat them by 20. :) Seems like long ago tho.

Well, I had an epic message typed up, with references to many of the highest and lowest points in Gator sports history. The kind of message that would be celebrated by all, laden with fistbumps, likes, agrees, and BestPostEver ratings. Then my computer browser restarted. So I'll keep this short. Like our friend mulegator used to be fond of saying, the Phoenix will rise again.

Yeah but I think the University and Athletic Department looks at the results from all sports. And if you do that, we are near the top.

Unfortunately, the only REVENUE PRODUCING sports are football and basketball.
Those two literally fund everything else we do and make our university's motor run.
Baseball, softball, T&F, tennis, gymnastics, swimming are nice too but they don't pay the bills.

    And this is the problem...

Not that I don't want to success in those sports, but not at the expense of the two biggest ones.

Updated, and will fix once basketball has more than 8 SEC games, and will weight basketball less than football etc.
but gators are still 11 of 14 teams and only Miss State, Arkansas, and Vandy are below us.
keep in mind -- Vandy is 0 Wins 13 loses
Arkansas is 2 wins 11 loses
Miss State 3 wins 10 loses

and in hoops we beat Arkansas who is 1-4 and Mizzou who is 0-5....

Mizzou is joining the bottom of the SEC quickly ---- ouch
Vandy still has yet to win an SEC game in either sport -- every league needs an easy win on the schedule!

tonight is a must win vs Miss State - your drop this game, season is over......you have to get wins against the bottom of the league

Let’s at least wait until the basketball season is over before we start compiling season total SEC stats

MSU is #35 in Kenpom (5th best in the SEC), played mostly with Smith out. This game is neither a "must win" nor is it a game against the "bottom of the league." I realize MSU is 2-3, but the teams they've lost to are a combined 12-5, and they also have a win against Tennessee. I'd be curious to see if there was an outlet that didn't predict MSU to finish in the top half of the league or one that didn't predict them to finish ahead of us.

This game is certainly an opportunity for FLORIDA. Forget tournament chances, I want to see if we can move up in the SEC combined 2-sports standings before the next rankings are released.

    Go GATORS!

Though one thing we also have in common with Vandy is we’re the top two academic schools in the conference, perhaps our schools’ priorities are different now than the others…to the demise of our top two sports but overall we’re still the best overall college experience in the SEC imo. Some of the other schools can brag about football championships, but they’ll still have Alabama and Georgia on their shit resumes

Yea, academics can be an excuse for football, not for hoops though.
No question the Florida scholar program changed Florida for sure, Georgia is experiencing that now (extremely difficult to get into UGA in state).
