And now we can speculate who the “powerful people” are. No matter who you are, they’re probably in the other party.

Can't say I'm that surprised, but I was a little surprised that he was so open/blunt about it. Don't know about the legality of it either way.

A quick check of Arizona's bribery statutes would indicate they don't apply to her and this situation.

13-2602. Bribery of a public servant or party officer; classification

    A. A person commits bribery of a public servant or party officer if with corrupt intent:

    1. Such person offers, confers or agrees to confer any benefit upon a public servant or party officer with the intent to influence the public servant's or party officer's vote, opinion, judgment, exercise of discretion or other action in his official capacity as a public servant or party officer; or

    2. While a public servant or party officer, such person solicits, accepts or agrees to accept any benefit upon an agreement or understanding that his vote, opinion, judgment, exercise of discretion or other action as a public servant or party officer may thereby be influenced.

    B. It is no defense to a prosecution under this section that a person sought to be influenced was not qualified to act in the desired way because such person had not yet assumed office, lacked jurisdiction or for any other reason.

    C. Bribery of a public servant or party officer is a class 4 felony.

That's interesting. I remember being surprised here in Florida when there was a prosecution over people putting up a straw-man candidate. I feel like that probably happens quite a bit in politics but never clear to me where the legal lines may be.

That was my kneejerk reaction as well. The way she is non-challantly chomping a bag of doritos while she calmly turns down a billion dollars and claims she'll sacrifice her life for her country - it's like a bad network show.

Lake is seen as poison to establishment Rs in Arizona. Lake does well with the MAGAts, but there are about an even number if Independents as there are Rs in Arizona. And the Inds aren't MAGA fans at all. It's why only 1 R has won a state election in Arizona the last four years.

And that's Tom Horne, Sec of Education, who isn't doing his party any favors. He created a hotline and hired someone to monitor it to catch "woke" teachers who engage with things like CRT. Only problem? Not a single call to the hotline has had any merit to it! That's $100k of taxpayer money wasted for nothing.

Trump, Lake, and MAGA has turned Arizona purple. That's why the establishment is bribing Lake not to run.

sounds like Youngkin’s short-lived hotline in VA. He eventually shut it down.

I really don't care much about what goes on in AZ, but I must say she has etched a special place in my heart for having the fortitude to not only record the conversation in the first place, but then to release it and expose the establishment for what they are. I remember when Jeb Bush had his donors boo Trump for talking about the lie that was the 2nd Iraq War. We haven't heard much from Jeb since then.
