Can someone in the know compare the guys that left with the incoming bunch? I’d be interested to know your opinions about: NFL, grads and other miscellaneous departures vs incoming HS players Portal out vs Portal in I just threw them in these 2 baskets for convenience. Seems to me we are stronger in both artificial areas. What say you? Of course it will have to play out in the fall, but I think we will have a better roster. Will it translate into wins?
2024 picked up: 2 LBs that we really needed QB of the future 2 more WR to build that room back up some big O-Lineman 2 SEC ready RBs 2023 picked up some really good defensive lineman and DBs a really good RB 3 really talented WRs
As a whole on paper this team talent wise has improved. Now whether or not that correlates to more wins is a different story since we do have the toughest schedule.
The two classes mesh well together. Strong positions in 2023: WR TE IOL DE DB Strong positions in 2024: QB RB OT LB DT
Underrated room: WR TJ Tank EWIII Andy Jean Mizell Mixure of speed and quickness. I'd love to see Grimsley slide in until a starting position opens up on D. Maybe a Travis Hunter clone.
I was mentioning this the other day on a different site. This is the most balanced recruiting we’ve seen in over a decade. Gaps get filled! We could be improved next year and still have an ugly W-L record. The schedule is brutal. Hopefully we steal a few.
With how well his kids played as TFR I have full faith Billy knows talent. Just need that new S&C plus the nutrition & AC hires to take that leap forward with the youth.
Kinda crazy how forgotten Amir Jackson seems to have been from this class. IMO, aside from Lagway. Amir Jackson is the best offensive player we signed this year. Like a Pitts 2.0 He's a highlight catching mismatch at TE and is shifty enough at 6'5 to leave defenders grabbing their ankles.
The average star ranking of this recent class is top 5. The class suffers due to quantity, not quality. The portal brings in immediate starters and 2deep talent if done correctly. Our OL and DL have not had the S&C to dominate for 4 quarters. Hopefully that changes with new team coming in
I can't tell if he's just that impressive or if his competition is a little weak but he looks like everything you say he is. Definitely seems like he has been overlooked by many for some reason. He may earn an extra star just by having a better cameraman. That was rough lol.
I'm super ecstatic that we were able to hold on to him after some reports he might flip around the time Johnson, Williams and Waller flipped. He's a really good basketball player as well and those always seem to make the best pass catching TEs. Just pairing him with Boardingham is gonna be a great combo, and a problem for defenses. One talented pass catching TE puts enough pressure on the linebackers but 2 of them will cause trouble, as teams don't often have many Lbs that can cover a 6'5 TE who moves like a receiver.
Yeah all jokes aside I'm surprised there wasn't more reaction when he stuck. Could be a big piece for us for sure
Still top 10 in avg player rating though. We were 8th in avg player rating last class but with a much higher blue chip ratio. (Even though we have more elite talent this class with lagway, McCray, myles etc) this class rating was lowered a bit due to some of our linemen like portnjagin, Williams and mascoll on the oline who all m have good upside, and michai Boireau who looks like the proto typical DT/NT but carries a 3 star rating. I like this class, and it really compliments the last class very well. CBN hitting on needs and identifying what is needed.
23+24 will be a very good team when they're Juniors and Seniors. A great team if backed up by comparable 25+26 and staff continuity of excellence. If'n were not gutted by NIL sniping. A distinct possibility which seems to have some folks on edge.
Final 247 ranking for 2024 is out. We have two of the Top 5 recruits: "...solidifying Florida's first haul of prospects with multiple top-five talents since the class of 2010, when the Gators signed the late Ronald Powell (defensive end, No. 1 overall), and defensive tackles Sharrif Floyd (No. 3) and Dominique Easley (No. 4)."
Actually, he's a portal guy.... ...Portal High School, in Portal, Georgia. He's #152 in the 247 final rankings.
We are going to have to supplement those two classes through the portal the next couple years to get there. All teams do unless they are too 3 every year.
