Miami WBB HC colluded with Ruiz = sanctions Fsu OL & best recruiter (hmmm) colluded with a booster/collective = sanctions UF HC nor staff colluded with lawyer/collective. So what glass house are you referencing???
No doubt, that needs to start biting them. The powers that be need to institute some sort of schedule rules where if you land top (x) classes and/or you make the playoffs you're not allowed to schedule FCS or terrible P5 teams.
You’re dumb bro. No way to sugar coat that and not get talked to by Mods. NIL was started because a Basketball player wanted money because a player in a video game looked like him playing on the team he was on. We all played that game, we all know they model it close to actual players. Of course it’s going to piggyback off the university just like it does in the Pros. As someone stated above, it’s a symbiotic relationship between the player and university. He is trying to get money for his name being on a Gator shirt. The Gators in turn are trying to win games with him being here. If you can’t understand that I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe since you disagree with this being what actual NIL looks like, you can shed light on how the other players around the country are doing NIL the right way where there is just a bag full of money and they do nothing for it. I’ll wait
I can't help it if you have difficulty grasping the concept of true Name, Image or Likeness rather than what a whole lot of opportunists have bastardized it into. Its the inherent marketable qualities that an individual has that makes them valuable. If you want a real example of Name, Image, and Likeness it would be Will Grier's little brother who was making bank on some online app as an influencer. He didn't have to put his name some laundry with another parties trademarks on it to be paid for his NIL. Additionally, I would argue that selling a Gator jersey with a player's name on it that most likely a large percentage of actual Gator fans couldn't identify isn't symbiotic, its more or less parasitic, with one party providing the bulk of the value. I'd bet UF would make a lot more money with the same gear with Tebow's name on the back.
What platform is Will Griers brother using? Did he create the platform or is he using the platform to promote his name?
Bottom line is, no matter what you have to have a platform for NIL. Whether it’s DJ U at Clemson using Dr. Pepper at the time, Will Grier’s brother using Instagram/FB/OnlyFans or whatever he uses, or a Gator football player using the Florida Gators prestige to promote himself. If you the man, the myth, the legend known as Crusher walk out into Times Square and announce yourself…..nobody is going to care. But if you go out and say you are working for ESPN, people will stop and talk to you. That’s just how the world works
I do not understand the dust up over a player using the UF logo to make some money. The young man is playing for a team that he is proud enough to put his name out for. I remember how badly I wanted to walk into a store and grab a Harvin and Tebow jersey back when I was at UF. It was not allowed and you had to bring the jersey to a custom tailor to get the name on it. I believe UF is doing the right thing by allowing current players who want to market themselves under the brand make a little money. Fans and players win in a small way.
Sadly, this is just on the surface stuff and the bulk of the NIL money doesn’t come from actual licensing or endorsements.
Right? I mean the way it was supposed to work is “we have a brand, and we want you here to help our brand and in return, capitalize off it yourself”.
