I WANT the “long term Build it slowly Billy plan” to work and by proxy Stricklin to work… part of me thinks it will but I know hopium is addictive

but what I find interesting in the abstract is that - we as a society have so much cognitive disconnect and confirmation bias. We do it politically too. You have a team. If I present facts that say “your team is doing —-“ you’ll say “I don’t believe those facts or discredit the source “… if I present more evidence… then it’s “you’re giving aid and comfort to the other side and hurting our side”…. If I press further “all sides have this issue”

it just seems we are in a post truth world where if an article goes against what people WANT to believe then they are wrong or negative. I wonder if we will ever get back to discourse or believing something different Wednesday than I did Monday because of facts presented Tuesday

What year of employment did those successful coaches win their championships? Was it in their 2nd year, 3rd? New coaches are brought in because the previous coach didn’t get the job done; too many losses with zero to no signs of turning things around. Very, very rarely does a new coach, any new coach, come in and produce an overnight championship. Most times, championship teams take time. Getting good quality men and women, with morals and ethics, plans and systems in place is important to me. SS had a couple of hires that went south real quick, but SS then did what any good manager does. He moved in and corrected the situation, fast. I like the individuals that SS has in place. I root for ‘em and support ‘em. Patience.

But none of those coaches had back to back losing seasons their first two years. Plus he didn't act fast with Cam. I am glad you like the coaches he has hired. I like how loyal you are but right now it doesn't look good. I would not be surprised if at least or more of these coaches he hired are gone in 25.

This dude that wrote this article tweets or “x’s” like a teenage girl. Don’t believe me, read them. Everything is the WORST EVER! I blocked him long ago. The constant hyperbole is tiring. He is also from Jersey which means he is a douchecanoe. Well I am from Jersey too but got civilized once we moved in 93

Upgrading the stadium to make it a better experience would be the only way for me to resume going to games and I'm not a "high level wealthy booster". The bench seats are quite cramped and there's barely the seat width to fit "normal" size adults, then toss in a few 300-pounders, and its autrocious. Also, I'm nearly 6'5" and leg room is horrible. Being in my mid-60s, I won't renew season tickets for those crappy-ass seats.

Also, I seariously doubt that Striklin is banking on fan contributions to fund the statdium work. If he doesn't have the funding identified and committed, there is no project. If fans are funding the project instead of NIL, your gripe is with them, not SS.

Yes, facts, you say. I did not "fail" to read the article as you say. Perhaps, you fail to understand history.

Jeremy Foley was hired as our AD in '92. He served until 2016. He inherited Steve Spurrier, who was hired in '90. Foley did not hire him.

As we all know our first natty in football was won in '96, by Spurs.

The first national championships we won during Foley's tenure in football and basketball were in the '04-06 time period, with Billy and Urban, who Foley hired. The first nattys Foley won in the big two sports-with coaches he hired --came 12 years after he became AD.

Stricklin has been there six years. Our facilities are being massively upgraded. Everyone knows this. It takes time. Chill out.

So did Foley get Urbs here or did Machen. I always heard Foley was just along for the ride on that hire.

I love that Foley gets no credit for hiring Urbs but gets all the blame for not bringing Steve back ;)

He specifically comments on that irony in the article.

This was the part that stood out most poignantly to me:

I fully understand not everyone is the same but based on the backlash you are in the deep minority. Most people want it packed and cramped. Thats the experience. I’m not criticizing you by the way, for you your comfort (due to your height) is more important than on field success. For me I am the opposite…I wouldn’t upgrade the stadium if it cost $0.

Of course the funds are committed but by definition it is lost NIL dollars.

If a booster has finite funds then every dollar for facilities is a dollar to NIL. While they should do whatever they want with their $, SS should be pushing NIL as it’s best for the University. Successful sports raises the profile and while the academics would disagree is the catalyst to our jump in academic rankings. Regardless Scott should be pushing NIL and he’s not. If he canceled the upgrade i guarantee some of those earmarked funds would become NIL funds.

Completely agree. Stricklin is not a fool, he is simply executing a plan based upon the vision that his employers have described.

I suspect that a lot of those in Administration are more concerned with keeping the "Top 5 Public University" reputation, and with respect to Athletics, are content with:
    -a bowl eligible football team
-a couple of Tourney appearances here and there
-an SEC title every once in a while, in a sport that no one really cares about
-and then just selling Gator Merchandise.

It was inevitable. All the die-hard Bull Gators are probably either dead, or in hospice care. Most of the people in Admin aren't even UF grads, I'm willing to bet most of them are not even from Florida

If I may opine, when things got "out of hand" was when FSU began to get all the "free" goodies from the state, which means too many FSU silly folk taking over legislative positions. Um, we don't have lawyers and business folk who are UF grads anymore? We do but they just don't care?

I am not sure we are "going there" yet, as we ARE spending huge sums of money on facilities. If we were, those monies would be re-allocated towards the Doctorate in Tree Hugging program and whatnot.
