Alina Habba is getting humiliated by the judge in the E. Jean Carroll case. The judge needs to adjourn the proceedings for 2 hours and make her watch My Cousin Vinny so that she gets an idea how courtroom procedure works.
I can't even imagine being a client sitting in court and my attorney doesn't even know how to introduce evidence.
He's going to get smashed. Imagine being on the jury and hearing that he's continuing to defame her while the trial is happening. He's already been ordered to pay $8 million and is showing complete disregard for another trial. On top of that he and his attorney are showing complete disdain for the court. The jury could come back with a huge number.
I doubt that Trump chooses his attorneys based on their legal acumen. I just wonder if she will ever recover a shred of self respect at some point in her life
The judge even gave her a brief recess to try to figure out the evidence problem. She apparently didn't have any available lifelines as she continued to struggle. He's right in the context of split second national security decisions. Not so much when it comes to stealing top secret documents after your presidency or trying to stop your opponent from being inaugurated after he won fair and square.
So, above the law. Good to know. If that is the case then that phrase " equal justice under law" needs to be tossed on the scrap heap of history as being utter bullshit.
Having embarrassed myself in court I can actually relate to what Habba is experiencing. When I was an intern in the State Attorney's office in Jacksonville I had the opportunity to represent the State in a felony jury trial. When I gave the opening statement I used a phrase to the effect that defendant had already been found guilty. The Assistant PD representing the defendant objected. I tried again rephrasing the sentence and made the same mistake only the second time the PD moved for a mistrial. Fortunately, the judge (Susan Black by the way) denied the motion for a mistrial and instructed the jury to ignore my remarks. Definitely a learning experience. The difference is that I was an intern prosecuting a relatively minor felony (grand larceny) against a defendant with no prior criminal record while Habba is representing a former president in a highly publicized civil case that will almost certainly result in damages in the 8-figure range. By the way the defendant in my case ended up with a suspended sentence and probation. I actually do not recall if we negotiated a plea bargain after the presentation by the state (the victim was the State's sole witness) or whether the jury returned in a guilty verdict (the defense didn't bother calling any witnesses).
Perhaps, but the phrase has been gutted by the left's incredibly brazen unilateral application and weaponization of the justice system long before Trump's quote there.
Yeah... I'd been giving her the benefit of the doubt, figuring maybe she was privy to some info I wasn't, or .... idk... something. Especially wrt to the head scratching failure to demand a jury. It's becoming apparent that she was hired bc she's hot. Well, if he loses the trial, at least he'll have a sexy babe at his side. That's gotta count for something. That’s a good story. It seems to failing, but I was trying to insert the imagine of the Simpsons lawyer Lionel Hutz, who at the start of the trial says that he rests his case. Hutz: “I rest my case.” Judge: “You rest your case??” Hutz: “Oh I thought that was just a figure of speech. Case closed.”
So do you agree with Trump's assertion that he ( and by extension, all presidents) should have absolute blanket immunity? If you do agree with that premise, then how is that not " above the law"? I'll hang up and listen....
I did see some (liberal) attorneys remarking that she's not dumb, just inexperienced at trial which then makes her appear dumb. Agree that it's a head scratcher though. I know Trump can be a difficult client but surely he could have found some attorney with trial experience, if only just to help out Habba. He should stick with letting her be his TV lawyer but get an experienced lawyer for trial.
