Said it in several previous posts. Considering that the language of the statute is vague which even you admitted do you think doctors would be willing to risk prosecution and/or loss of their licenses to practice medicine by performing an abortion unless a patient's life was in imminent danger? Considering Ken Paxton's eagerness to pursue the appeal of the trial court's decision in the case of Kate Cox pursuit of criminal charges against a doctor by a zealous Texas DA is not just possible it's likely if a doctor performs an abortion when the patient's life is not immediate danger.
Added quotes and a missing qualifier." "Democracy" is all fun and games until the people elect a non-ethnically diverse legislature as the result of aggressive gerrymandering intended to achieve a specific electoral result.
Texas has a racially gerrymandered state legislature. And it shows what a farce the right's conception of "merit" is.
Ahh yes... The result of all elections I like is "democracy." The result of all elections I don't like is "gerrymandering." The questioning of elections I like is a threat to democracy. The questioning of elections I don't like is a good faith attempt to save it.
What is the lie? That Glick died? That Zurakowski is now infertile? That Cox had to leave the state to get the medical care her doctor said she needed?
I'm willing to admit that the Democrats have benefited from gerrymandering in Maryland. When the proportion of one party is much greater in a state legislature and/or a state's Congressional delegation than it is in based on the vote in statewide elections it's not democracy it's manipulation commonly referred to as gerrymandering and thanks to computer algorithms it's been more effective over the last decade or so than it's been historically although it's nothing new. FYI Analysis: Gerrymandering has left Texas voters with few options
Read the decision and how it was interpreted. Show how it prohibits a Mother from getting an abortion if her long term health or life is in jeopardy. You cannot! Hence you keep spewing nonsense… Read the Law! Read the Decision!
I 100% think a doctor would do what is in the best interest of the mother! And they have every ability to do so. Does that mean the right decision is made at the right time every time? No. The court spelled it out. This is for doctors not the courts. And every single day doctors are making decisions on each individual patients health. Show me how Texas is trying to get in the way of that reality.
Pure nonsense! No one has said that. Absolutely no one. When you can’t make a point you cry false hyperbolic statements. Read the Law! Read the Decision!
The lie is the implication Texas caused any of the nonsense @AzCatFan keeps spewing. Read the Law! Read the Decision! These stories do not show Texas did anything to keep a Mother from getting the treatment they needed.
Actually it’s pretty easy to see where there is gerrymandering without being partisan at all. In a representative democracy, the districts are supposed to represent the population. If a state is 50-50, its national representatives and state legislature should be roughly 50-50. If it’s 75–25, then it should be roughly 75-25. It may not always line up perfectly, but over the long term if there is deviation or one party is consistently over represented vs the statewide vote it means representation isn’t being allocated appropriately to the population. I.e there is gerrymandering to get a different result.
Maybe that's how you think about it. Gerrymandering is gerrymandering. Democrats do it too. Of course, they don't racially gerrymander nearly as often. Regardless, it demonstrates again what bullshit the right-wing conception of "merit" is. The Republican Party is disproportionately white and male. And they disproportionately pick white men to represent them. Why? Because we are biased towards people who look, talk, and think like us.
Ken Paxton petitions to stop Dallas woman from getting an abortion | The Texas Tribune The Texas Supreme Court on Friday night temporarily halted a lower court's order that would have permitted a pregnant Dallas woman, whose fetus has lethal abnormality, to get an abortion. The order came in response to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's request a day earlier that the high court step in to intervene. The Supreme Court did not rule on the merits of the case. The court said it would rule on the temporary restraining order, but did not specify when.
That’s all well and good, but what does that have to do with ethnic and age distribution of the Texas legislature? They could look like the United Nations, if it was all Republicans, y’all would still be crying about gerrymandering. Which is really what it’s about. It’s about politics, not race, gender, or ethnicity.
