That’s the debate, isn’t it? Where are we? We really need to be at least headed south and have evidence that we’re headed south (e.g. road signs that say “Tampa 50”) by the end of this season. If we get to “Welcome to Georgia” after all of the fair warnings, then, yeah, it’s time to pull over and change drivers.
Most of us are actually in another car spectating, and have little control over where that one is going. We’re free to exit and find something else to spectate at any time.
At that point you're already 3 years (uh... I mean hours) in the wrong direction with what is now 7 hours left on what used to be a 4 hour trip. You might as well ditch the car and hop a plane at that point (analogy for bringing Urban back..or at minimum a 500 page thread on Chip Kelly's jet transponder)
Remember CBN's postgame PC after the FSU game? He was basically asked that very question, and he said that he didn't know if that question could be answered. That's the moment I decided all his talk about the "process" is BS.
Bingo. We aren't even in the car, we are Marty McFly'ing it, just holding on. Some have already let go, others will hold on until the car goes into the drink or makes it to the promised land.
Promised Land? Bro, all I’m asking for is a winning season for the first time in four years. If that’s unrealistic expectations as a fan, then things are worse than I thought. And I thought things were pretty bad.
OTOH you can’t expect fans to throw money without any results. It’s why a 5 year plan (which is always stupid) is hilariously stupid in 2024. You rely on NIL dollars….you need excitement and results to maintain the flow of NIL dollars.
Napiers problem is not a 5 year plan. His staff on D let him down. With a stifling D this team would have been a contender in the conference. Most 2nd year turnarounds come on D.
Personally, this hire did nothing for me, but is Will Smith on to something? I don't know. Nevertheless, it's an interesting read. More importantly, I don't disagree with you guys. I want to see us win now. I think BN has the potential, but the snails-pace is a grind on patience! I want to see stellar recruiting and wins. Is the hiring of all the staff the answer? My head says no! All these hires have not produced results on the field. I listened to Shane Matthews last night and he claims a good source informed him that the recruits and portal transfer we lost we lost--why we plummeted from #3 in recruiting to #16--were offered ridiculous NIL money. Is that why even Lagway had second thoughts? Shane claims that NIL money has to have a reset, because it isn't sustainable. Can we compete with the Auburns, A&Ms, etc? I would like to think so, but I get the impression that certain schools are taking ridiculous risks with the amount of NIL $ being offered. I sense an implosion coming to CFB. The $64,000 question, can NIL be reined in? I think not. It sounds like, for now, these schools are going to have fail on their promises. Lots of good discussion there but if the good doctor would be so kind as to add more paragraphs please? Started out with a few then disappeared faster than a new year's resolution.
He hires the D coaches and he is involved in recruiting the players including on the D side. He is ultimately responsible for the success or failures.
That's my fault. We can't post more than 4 paragraphs or risk a copyright violation. I suggested just posting the link.
My favorite line from that article came from the part talking about Belichek and the Deflate-gate episode: "The Patriots may have been cheating, but they were doing so in search of an edge." Absolutely penetrating analysis. Gee, I thought cheating was only OK if you were doing it just for kicks. LMAO.
The Athletic predicts the Gators will go 5-7, 2-6 in the SEC. Personally, I think that's optimistic, but would love to be wrong. Florida Football: The Athletic predicts SEC outcomes for 2024 season
