Just watched Rough Diamonds. It’s about an orthodox Jewish family in the Antwerp, Belgium diamond business and their entanglements. It was interesting and I enjoyed it. It’s in Dutch, Yiddish, English, French, and Hebrew, with English subtitles. Season one left some things hanging and I hope there will be a season two. It’s on Netflix.
Oppenheimer was very compelling. Oppenheimer Sticks with you long after the credits roll. Went with my daughter back in July-ish (around whenever it first came out). We talked about it for hours afterwards. Very thought provoking.
It's older, but Snatch is awesome. It's a Guy Ritchie film and one of my all time favs. So many quotable lines. " I don't want that dog dribbling on my seats." "Your seats? Tyrone, this is a stolen car, mate."
I finally got around to watching Another Round. Mads is very good of course. I liked the movie too. The close is especially excellent.
I saw Saltburn (2023) ⭐ 7.1 | Comedy, Drama, Thriller and thought it was a fun watch. Got a bit bizarre in some areas, like a Tarantino film.
Ha. agree. I’ve seen it a few times. Speaking of Tyrone, great scene of his mates that can’t get out of that vestibule so they just give up and lay there, dejected. Tyrone arrives and just pushes the door open. they were inside pushing vs pulling the door. You see the companion movie “lock stock and two smoking barrels”?
I missed that one - good reminder. It has good reviews on RT. 93 and 90. I’ll add it to my list, thanks. it came out in 2020, curious what led you to watch it?
I was watching some behind the scenes clip and it said that Ritchie put that scene in the movie because that happened in real life there, lol. I have not seen Lock, Stock but it is definitely on the watchlist.
It is a good question what determines what film I choose to watch given that my to-watch list has reached full stupidity with like 600 films on it from every era of cinema. But a 90% RT Mads film about a group of middle aged dudes that experiment with maintaining a moderate blood alcohol level at all times is a film that begs to be watched at some point. Perhaps dry January was a poor moment for it, but my wife gave me full choice of film, so that’s the kind of thing she should expect to get. I also considered the new film anatomy of a fall, but it was late and Another Round was 30 minutes shorter. Pragmatic boost.
That movie was really fantastic and thought-provoking. I wasn't sure how to take the ending, as I felt like things could have gone either way with it.
Yes I know what you mean about the ambiguity of the ending. I chose to interpret it positively, but that’s certainly not the only way it could go. Its an awesome scene regardless.
600 films?!?! impressive. what kind of thumbs up vs down % do you have when watching one from the list. btw, to get thru that list would literally be a full time job for 7 months.
I’d like to take your compliment that it’s impressive, but at this point it feels like OCD keeping a list like this. Any rational person would have thrown it away by now. I don’t feel like I have the time to watch movies as much in these middle aged days, so films simply get added to the list at a higher rate than I can knock them off. As for my hit rate, amazingly, I like just about everyone I watch, but I vet every film for tone and critical reputation before adding them, so despite the size of the list, the composition is very non-random.
Just watched Sound of Freedom. Did not watch before as I figured I would get upset and have it on my mind for a while. I have an acquaintance who has done border work and refuses to go back due to their experience, and had already filled me in about child trafficking coming across the border, along with other issues. Humans are so —— Anyway, the movie was very emotional and very well done. Great cast and acting. Wish everyone would watch it.
Counterpoint: No one should watch a movie that glorifies a sex creep that was removed from his own anti-sex trafficking organization for being a huge perv
Another good one that Guy Ritchie did was The Gentleman. Very entertaining and good sets, costumes and dialogue. Worth watching a couple times to catch everything.
