Gator Baseball 2024 OFFICIAL ROSTER/Transfer Tracker/Lineup???

Discussion in 'GatorGrowl's Diamond Gators' started by Matherly87, Jun 6, 2023.

  1. 1. Personally I don't think enough emphasis is being given to alumni's kids in certain admission circumstances. While I want the best and brightest I also want more people who truly love UF and less who view UF as merely a stepping stone. I do worry about future alumni and whether they'll contribute to UF if they can't be bothered to go to football games when they're here.

    2. I dislike a lotta moves our athletic department has made for whatever reason. We are 4-5 years behind other schools for trendsetting football stuff which is what ultimately drives the majority of the revenue. I'm not sure why that's the case but if people took responsibility for our recent failures and attempted to fix them I'd feel better instead of pretending everything is great.

    @Noah_Brindise

In a nutshell, to me what we are talking about is commitment. Or more accurately it used to be commitment.

When an athlete signed in our day it was both a commitment (his word) to the coach of his sport AND to the school…..

In today’s world center stage is the transfer portal and NIL monies. And personally I’m afraid college sports as we have always known and loved them are a thing of the past in the rear view mirror to us—ALL FOR SELF-ENTITLEMENT AND GREED OF THE ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.

The truth is often sad but IMHO this is the society/culture that we are currently living in and greed is extremely powerful.

RHP Liam Peterson is already getting noticed. Good to know we have him for 3 seasons.

More D1Bsb stuff. I don't see them as an outstanding resource, but I like them well enough to pay, and I'll share brief clips that might be informative. This post is weak, but it's all we have until workouts start.

They've just run a series to rank the top 25 transfer classes- including both portal and JUCO. The Gators ranked 11, and the write-up was not as informative as any given page in this long thread. Writer wasn't one of their regulars whom I like to read. What was most interesting to me was who ranked ahead of us: 8 bama, 7 Miss, 6 Ark, 5 noles, 4 aTm, 3 Tn, 2 LSU. #1 was Wake. Other SEC rankings were 13 dawgs, 14 Aub, 16 OK.

For the Gators, they mentioned Shelby and Donay as headliners with Garrison with Russell as contributers. No comments on anyone else. I agree those likely are the top four, but I see others- especially Guy- as having potential to show up in the lineup. There was a lot more, and better, analysis of other teams that covered more players, which is my secondary reason for reading their stuff.

I think most here know Peterson is going to be very good. But let's see who else rises up this year. I'm looking forward to see if McNeellie comes back stronger this spring. And oh by the way, 15 days and counting.

Lots of new faces on the team and lots of big shoes to fill all over the place. But, also, lots of talent to choose from it seems. Should be a fun year to watch how it all works out.

Do ya'll know that the 2024 roster is still not posted on FloridaGators.com? The softball roster has been up for a couple of months.

Been that way for years, no idea why they are always so slow to update. Most schools do it at the start of fall

    They enjoy watching folks squirm.

  14. Late and I largely agree with you but I think it's solely because of the transfer rules not the kids. 18 and 19 year olds have always thought the answers were elsewhere if things didn't turn out as planned for essentially the first time in their athletic lives. I don't like it but when coaches are leaving at the drop of the hat for million dollar raises it feels tough to tell kids with a straight face this isn't a business and they shouldn't look out for their own interests above all.

I believe it is because Sully wants to wait until after fall workouts (which normally end the week before Thanksgiving) before finalizing the roster. There have been some players in past years that have participated in the fall but don’t return in the spring.

The spring roster should be posted by the end of the month.

Yeah that's always been my assumption....just think it's silly. They can make individual changes at any time.
The Gatorzone roster as of last night has Wyatt Langford, Sproat. And Waldrep. It's mid January for God's sake lol

10 days and counting people for SPRING PRACTICE. I've already reminded my wife 4 times where I'll be next Friday. We will get the roster sheet at the practice but unknown when it will appear officially online. Obviously 3 weeks later is game week so it will have to be online by then.

Questions I'm wondering for first day of spring practice....
    1. Does Sully start the scrimmage with Cags up against Fisher or does Peterson get the day 1 nod?
    2. Where does Donay play the most at catcher or OF? Is he mainly bound for the DH spot or Heyman when Cags is at 1st?
    3. Is Heyman still Cags ever day catcher?
    4. Is Heyman, Shelton, Kurland still hitting line drives in both directions (LCF, RCF)?
    5. Is Robertson settled in at CF and is he still slapping line drives into LCF? He had a much better approach at the plate for much of the fall.
    6. Is Evans ready to go or still nursing injuries? Does he start in RF still?
    7. How far has String Bean Coppola progressed? Is he even throwing at 80-90% yet? Anything in the bullpen? Does Clemente look ready yet?
    8. Is Fisher pushing the other two starters in Cags and Peterson?
    9. Does Neeley look ready for another year as reliever or does he want more?
    10. And lastly is Thomas the right guy for 3rd base?
