Not for me, in fact it’s quite the opposite. I’ve become less invested in the individual players knowing that they could be gone at any point and playing for our biggest rivals.
I went to high school with a guy who was drafted in the first round of the NBA draft and played over a decade in the league, so he was a pretty decent player. His parents lived on the same street as mine at one time. He came home from the (non-SEC) college he was playing at once with a nice ‘55 Chevy with a 454 in it and I asked what kind of a job he had to afford such a nice car. He laughed and told me you’d be surprised what people will give you if you can play a little basketball. Coincidentally, his parents got his and hers brand new Mustang GTs when he went off to college.
Totally. Nobody in the future will ever reach the heights (in the fans minds) of Tebow, Wuerffel, etc. I expect all the perks of being a former Gator will also wane.
Right now players are getting paid by passing the hat among the fans. Just wait until all the $$$$$ generated is in one chest. https://footballscoop.com/news/texas-reports-record-for-now-271-million-in-revenue
It appears that Texas has finally learned that Revenue skyrockets when you put a winning football team on the field.
But it is hard to find when you need it every year. Not a one time gift. 100,000 Gator fans contributing $15 per month is $18 million. 50,000 to give 30 per month. That is what it would take to fund NIL in addition to thd mega donors. That is how it is sustained into the future. The negative it is not tax deductible like a gift to the college would be.
Neither is seat licensing (thinking the NFL, not sure about college). Just another "fun tax" you pay to get what you want. Are we that interested?
I hope they tax the athletes the same way they do the pros where every state they play in dings them. If they want to act like pros they get treated like pros.
But, but, but, they aren't getting paid to play. They're getting paid because of their wonderful likeness and image!
20-30 mil is nothing when Texas generates almost 300 mil without booster help. They and others can still outbid for any player they want. It’s like having an nfl franchise with a free roster that you only have to subsidize a small amount.
