maybe medium ranged missiles. IRIS-T System has a range of 20 miles. Germany gave them some. but there was a big trade off of needed support at the front vs protecting cities.

long range patriots can go 56 miles based on published criteria. I'm sure they can likely squeeze a little more out of them than that. any reason they can't be programmed to intercept aircraft and not just incoming missiles?

They are originally designed for aircraft, not missiles, so yes. And the range is farther than what you posted. But, still, it stretches suspension of disbelief that the Russians, having a good idea of how far Patriots can fire, would close vulnerable, emitting aircraft within that range.

They’re dropping bombs on their cities due to lack of training. Is it too much of a stretch to believe some inexperienced commander directed them where they shouldn’t have gone?

I suppose not. It’s also possible but not likely the aircraft strayed too close to the front without such orders. But if I had to put money on it right now, then I would say if these aircraft were shot down, then it was not by a Patriot.

Bearing in mind I have absolutely no information that you don’t on that topic, then yes. I would find that more likely.

feels like the battlefield shaping to take control of the skies has been ongoing for 8 weeks + now as himars went after sams and now something is taking out long range radar and tracking

Could f16, a2a missile combo run down that C&C jet or did the eyes not see the prize? Or did C&C plane call for fighter support and not get it? How long before those details come out? Putin going balls out to hit eastern airports seemed to be a big tell

What an F16 can or can’t do would depend on which country donated and what kinds of bells and whistles it would come with. The specific weapons systems that would come with it also matter a great deal. Now as to your specific question, that sort of capability would start getting into classified information. So even if I knew something, I would not be able to comment on it here.

I think the swedish ones were closest to being ready but I could be wrong. it will be interesting to see what dated western air power can do with the best russia has to offer. if their air force demonstrates the same competency that the russian army did this could be entertaining once the rest of the sams are taken care of

There was footage the other day of a couple of Bradley's purportedly taking out a Russian tank but I could not follow it because the quality was not that good. I'm not saying it did not show that but I just could not see it

Seems unlikely. The radar plane is extremely expensive, I would have to believe, so they would probably risk a fighter jet getting close to the SAM sites to I.D. them. Plus the fighter jet has at least some maneuverability to try to escape; the plane with the giant radar has none. The plane was over the Sea of Azov, which is a fair distance behind the front lines and away from areas controlled by Ukraine.

I would be curious to know if Ukraine figured out a way to mount missiles and radar on low-profile sea drones and snuck them into the Sea of Azov for an attack. Sounds crazy, but Ukraine's military has been very creative so far in the war.

Putin is demanding that his troops take and secure Avdiivka before the Russian presidential election as a "gift" to him. That explains all of the slaughter of Russian troops there.

Russians are being slaughtered trying to take Avdiivka as an ‘election’ gift for Putin

This just in! Zelenskyy says the Russians are suffering massive losses in the East. You heard it here first.
