I’ll accept that they don’t “cut” a lot. They choose to end funding, or change requirements, or change a tax to zero that funds something so in essence they don’t “cut” a lot of programs because it would be unpopular.

But when looking at things holistically, That argument doesn’t really hold water when you look at where the gop chooses to spend and not spend money. It’s all choices. Tax cuts on rich and corporations? Sounds great. Subsidizing big farms? Hooray. Building a giant ass border wall? Omg sounds amazing… increasing funding/continuing to fund a COVID era welfare program for the poor?! Government waste cut it.

The choices define the party. The other thing that hurts your argument is then a dumb governor stands up and shouts to the world:

“COVID-19 is over, and Nebraska taxpayers expect that pandemic-era government relief programs will end too,” Pillen said in his statement. Pillen announced on Dec. 19 that Nebraska would not participate in the program. He has drawn a firestorm of criticism for later defending that stance at a news conference by saying, “I don’t believe in welfare.”

so ok, the party believes in corporate welfare but not personal welfare?

I appreciate your point of view on this but it doesn’t align with the actual actions and words of gop leaders. They don’t always follow through but they have certainly tried to kill or impair many welfare programs over the years.

I propose a compromise: GOP throws kids a free meal and Democrats oppose killing kids in the womb.

Youre missing the target but grazing the tree. Mobility issues in the US can be derived from weak labor organization, an anti-union environment, and serious inequity in education. Without a college education you are a commodity and unorganized commodity labor is exploited.

Zero percent of inequity come from your woke boogeyman of lazy welfare queens and lazy millennial influencer wannabes. Come on. You know it’s too hard in here to throw that around.

It is always weird that we tell ourselves such tall tales about our country. For as much as we like to dream about small businesses and anyone can do anything, those dreams are much less true here than in many of the countries we decry as socialist. We have less social mobility than most socialist countries, and much less of our employment is at small businesses. Last time I looked, only Germany and the US had more than 50% of employees at mid- to large-size corporations, they were just over 50% and we were pushing 65%. Every other OECD country had more people working for small businesses than for mid- to large-size corporations, but for some reason we think that is our thing and that becoming socialistic like those countries will ruin everything.

$40 at the Wal Mart grocery store at San Pablo Rd. and Atlantic Blvd. in Jacksonville, Fl. gets me 7 one lb. packs of Great Value ham or turkey and 7 loaves of great Value honey wheat bread with about $1 left over.

Mississippi quits child food program amid Republican ‘welfare state’ attack

Mississippi is withdrawing from a federal program to feed children during their summer break from school, the governor there announced, characterizing the decision as a way to reject “attempts to expand the welfare state”.

Governor Tate Reeves, a Republican, declined to participate in the federal program that would give electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards to low-income families to supplement food costs when academic classes are out of session, Mississippi Today reported.

However, Mississippi’s welfare agency undercut Reeves’s reasoning, saying the state does not have the capacity to administer the program.

“Both [the Mississippi department of education] and [its department of human services] lack the resources, including workforce capacity and funding, to support a summer EBT program,” a spokesperson for the state human services department, Mark Jones, said.

GOP: Food prices are stifling for the average American!

Also GOP: Food funding for impoverished children is socialist Marxist communist waste.

You legitimately need a lobotomy to support that crew.

Reasonable post. Where we differ is that "tax cuts" = giveaways and that somehow any/all government programs are worthwhile and beneficial to those the programs purport to help. Bandaids at best.

Humans have been around for tens of thousands of years. In the last two centuries we have found that healthy societies typically are built upon healthy families with two parents, law and order as a rule and opportunity (education). As stated many times: if a person graduates high school, does not have children until they are married and does not get married until after age 20 they will not live a life of grinding poverty. They may not be wealthy - but they will have food, housing, clothing and transportation.

So, in general, which side of the political aisle usually supports:
    * Intact families w/ husband and wife together
    * Law and order
    * Education (meaning quality learning for students, not how much $$$ is spent ...on buildings, administration, etc.)?

Corporate welfare? Let's do away with it. I have no problem with the larger corporations ceasing to exist because they made poor managerial decisions. The small guy has it happen every day. Bailing out companies - beginning w/ Chrysler in the 70's - is a moral hazard not unlike paying a woman more to NOT have a man in the house and have babies. The idea that every government program "for the children" must be maintained and expanded is a canard used to bash GOP as we see very well within this thread. And, the idea that every government subsidy "for the corporation" must be maintained and expanded is equally silly.

The answer to your 3-part question is the Democrats. The GOP wants to destroy all 3.

The GOP says they are for the first two, but they don't do anything for the 1st one and actively work against the second. They haven't said much officially about the 3d, but their actions are consistently undermining it.

Florida has opted out of a new federal program that’s designed to help low-income parents pay for groceries over the summer.

The Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer Program for Children (Summer EBT) is a new form of federal food assistance that will offer pre-loaded cards to help low-income parents afford groceries during June, July and August.

Beginning in the summer of 2024, eligible families in states and territories that participate in the program will receive $40 per month for every child in the household, according to the USDA website.

Almost all the states that opted out are southern states. Looks like pro-lifers do what pro-lifers do.

The program was estimated to feed 2 million low income children in the state in the state

    Examples, please.

GOP actively works against law and order? Really? I guess the riots in 2020 where billions were destroyed/looted in mostly Democratic cities and we heard "defund the police" from the Left was the fault of Republicans? Millions crossing into the USA without authorization is the Pubs actively working against law and order? You can say it, but without some evidence the reply is weak. as gatorchamps "all 3" with Democrats is as well.

Just last week Trump's lawyers tried to argue in court the president was above the law. How much more do they have to be against law and order for you to see it?
