The country is better off without that divisive POS. He did more harm to this country than most of the people we convicted for treason in the U.S. It’s scary that anyone would think of him as a “father figure.”

On this we will have to disagree. “Doctor shopper” Rush was screaming about drug users and pushers while at the same time looking for different doc who would prescribe him his painkillers (drugs). In my mind he was just another scammer.

And you know for a fact a white person would have never created blues or jazz or rock n roll or gospel?

Sure it might have been later but I think those forms (or variants of them) would’ve been created.

As expected the contributions are mostly music and food. And I appreciate those contributions. I know my niece does. She was just in Europe on a study abroad and while she lived Europe the biggest thing she missed was the availability of Mexican food. It was non existent or really bad in Europe. Her first day back in the U.S. she was planning to go to her favorite Mexican restaurant.

But food and music doesn’t equal things that have reshaped this country. Nor does it equal technological or economic contributions.

GFY. Rush Limbaugh was more American and more patriotic in one half of one finger than you or me are in our entire bodies.

How does it feel knowing Rush got the Medal of Freedom (highest civilian honor) and a standing ovation in a joint session of Congress? Two honors you’ll never get.

That man was one of the greatest Americans who ever lived. So he had his vices, we all do. I’ll trust a man like Rush who admits to his challenges or struggles over someone claiming to be perfect.

Rush had a beautiful soul that shines 100x brighter than yours. He is now next to God in heaven and will be remembered long after you are long forgotten.

If I could’ve done anything to have helped Rush stay alive I would have. There aren’t many people outside of family I would gladly sacrifice my life for, but Rush was one of them. I know it’s weird to say you lived someone you only met in person twice but I genuinely loved that man.

RIP El Rushbo. One of the greatest Americans to ever live.

So are you willing to admit that the economy and the country were in very good shape under Trump from 2017 to the Pandemic? I’ll admit he could’ve handled the pandemic better the minute you acknowledge that life under the Trump Presidency from 2017-2019 was pretty darn good.

The pandemic wasn’t like a 9/11 or a Pearl Harbor where the country is united. Republicans and Democrats were diametrically opposed in their response. I don’t think we should’ve ever locked down and I never did. I was on the beach in late March. I did a hiking trip up to North Carolina that year in late May that year. If the virus took me it took me but I didn’t live my life in fear. And I’m still here. :)

What exactly did you want Trump to do? Lock down the country? That was never constitutional or legal and would’ve been shot down in the courts. If not Biden would’ve done it in 2021.

As for Europe, I honestly don’t give a da*n what Europe thinks of us. In fact if we do something that pisses Europe off I tend to think that means it’s a good decision for America. Europe wouldn’t have their fancy infrastructure and would still be rebuilding from World War II if it wasn’t for us. The billions we’ve spent in Europe that could’ve been spent here is sickening. We’ve done 10x more for Europe than they’ve ever done for us so I don’t care what Europe thinks.

As far as I’m concerned we shouldn’t be in the Ukraine war. Ukraine is not a NATO member or a strategic ally. That war is none of our business other than you all hate Russia. We should stop supplying weapons to Ukraine and stop treating it as a proxy war. Let Europe defend itself for a change and if Russia takes over Ukraine they take it over. No loss for us.

Your side always treats the first Trump Presidency as if it was some sort of dystopian mad max era. Please tell me, besides the Pandemic (which no President would’ve gotten right for 50% of the country), what was so bad for you personally under the Trump Presidency from 2017-2019? If it was this mad max eea you all like to proclaim surely you have some easy ready made examples.

I think the discussion in this thread proves my original point. The U.S. is split by politicians, right down the middle.

50% on each side. Neither side will give an inch and the sides no longer have anything in common with each.

As the old saying goes a house divided against itself can not stand. The two sides being diametrically opposed to the other will cause our government to largely continue to be non-functional. Eventually the cold civil war we are currently in will turn to violence.

Can we not at least agree that a country where half the country hates the other half isn’t a stable country? Do you really think the U.S. can survive long term in its current state? History doesn’t agree with you.

I don't think it's quite as bad as half the country hating each other. Let me try to break it down in a way that at least makes sense to me.

Trump has 50% support in Iowa, so that's 50% of Republican voters. 74 million people voted Republican out of 332 million people in the US. So if I assume about half of those Republican votes are specifically for Trump, and half are for more traditional conservative reasons despite Trump (abortion, taxes, Supreme Court, etc), then I really only hate about 10% of the country (37 million divided 332 million). I don't agree with the other half of Republican voters but I get it if certain issues are that important to them. I also don't believe those non-Trump Republican voters truly hate the left.

It really just comes down to that 10% of the country who support Trump no matter what. They hate every other voter who doesn't like Trump and a good chunk of Democrat voters probably hate that 10%.

Does that mean we're doomed? I don't think so. If we can defeat Trump one more time, that's probably the end for him as a presidential candidate. We've seen many people try and fail to imitate his style, and to the extent they succeeded, it's really because of Trump himself. One or two more presidential election cycles with more normal candidates and I think we can Make America Great Again by going back to a time when the ignorant racists didn't feel empowered to publicly spew their ignorant racist comments.

We have a long history of surviving division in America.
    • In the 1970’s 13 students were shot at Kent State capping off the turmoil of a decade of American war division
    • In the 1960’s people were being murdered over civil rights https://www.splcenter.org/what-we-do/civil-rights-memorial/civil-rights-martyrs
    • Early 1900’s there were more than 1 lynching a week.. for decades
    • 1860’s there was an all out war over differences
    • 1856 congressman Brooks attacks Sumner with a cane over the head in a brutal beating highlighting the division in the US
    • 1855 Bloody Monday Louisville election riot
    • 1802 Hamilton and Burr shot at eachother over politics, killing Hamilton
    Super small sampling above.

Exactly. And unfortunately the hateful voices on both sides are the loudest. Amplified by both social and tradition media.

You make a very good point here about the 10%, but I would add the same goes for the other side. The problem is many of us that lean to one side or the other of the aisle have allowed that 10% fringe form both sides be the loudest voices and affect news coverages and everything these days. The more time we spend with our neighbors that we disagree with face to face and the less time we spend on social media and 24 hr news shows, the more we realize we are not really that different. We have some differing views on how to achieve goals, but at the end of the day the goals are not really that different.

Half the country doesn't hate the other half. About 20% of the country is trying to convince themselves half the country hates them, but that is a self-inflicted problem, and not reality.

I would agree with this it’s why I think, even if Trump loses in 2024, MAGA doesn’t go away. Social media has given the radicals on both sides a voice they never had before. The establishment of both parties could largely drown out their more extreme elements. They can no longer do that.

Combine that with the fact that with largely closed primaries the extremes typically choose the candidate and I think you’ll have more extreme candidates than even Trump or Sanders going forward.

We might have more ideologically extreme candidates than Trump and Bernie for sure. I feel confident, however, that we will never have another candidate win a primary that is a more odious, morally corrupt and contemptible human being than Donald Trump.

The extreme right of the republican party has a LOT more power over the republican party than the extreme left does over the democrats.

Saying the two are the same at this point is ignorance, lying, or stupidity.

This is probably one of the most unintentionally hilarious posts I’ve seen here or elsewhere.

I grew up listening to his bullshit in my family home and realized after awhile he was a duplicitous POS that made money stoking division based on half-truths and lies. I’m glad he’s no longer around to pollute the airwaves and people's minds. Unfortunately for some it is too late.

One of the worst Americans ever and may he quickly be forgotten and sent to damnation if you believe in that sort of thing.
