He did a really good job at Arizona. A little surprised he used his chip here, gotta strike while the iron is hot though. He was scheduled to make $3mil at Arizona this year, reports are UW offered maybe up to triple that. Washington looks to return very little and moves to the tougher revamped B1G next season.
And there is no state income tax in the State of Washington. Just as there is no state income tax in the State of Florida. Maybe if he likes keeping more of his hard earned coaching dollars and bonuses in Seattle he'll think warmly about the possibility of doing more of the same in Hogtown. I wish him great success. I really hope CBN surprises us all this coming year. But I'm beginning to think Scott Stricklin has to be prepared with a contingency plan. AZ recruited pretty well. Let's keep a close eye on whether the portal opens up and there is significant movement between Tucson and Seattle
Have a good friend that is an Arizona alum. Feel bad for their fans, finally have a winning season and the coach bails. Hell of a salary bump for one very good season, but that's the new biz model I guess. I heard his buyout from Az was only $5M, which is less than what UW got for losing Deboer.
fwiw, the DeBoer buyout at Washington was $12mil. I would imagine UW will put a massive buyout on Fisch similar to what Oregon did with Lanning, $20mil.
This is the beginning of the end for college football for schools not in the SEC or B1G. UW is paying Fisch 3X what he was getting paid at Arizona. And why would coaches and players stay at a school like Arizona when a SEC or B1G school will play 3X? As for Fisch, he's a risk. 3 years experience total, and a sub .500 record. He's 7-1 with Fifita at QB, but with de Laura, who had plenty of talent, he's just under .500. Fisch also has no D-Coordinator. Nansen took the DC job at Texas.
It took Alabama less than 48hrs to land a new HC. It took Washington less than 48hrs to land a new HC. How is that possible? (asking for a friend)
Season over for all candidates and nothing to hold up the process speeds up the process. UW IMO reached, overpayed a guy that job hops at an alarming rate and hasn't consistently won. Arizona people livid that Fisch spent a grand total of 3 minutes with his team telling them he was leaving. Compare that to how Napier left UL
Funny how there’s never any crying about all these coaches not being loyal and only caring about money when they leave their current schools to go somewhere else, I guess only players get that criticism LOL
