And do you know how you know that? Because Xi has been cracking down on corruption and arresting officers who falsify readiness reports. This open-source material is a deliberate warning from Xi to his military. Ask yourself how many corruption stories you remember coming out of Russia before the Ukraine debacle exposed their whole enterprise as rotten. But if you like, assume away the Chinese threat and hope you’re right. I imagine being wrong won’t cost you nearly as much as it might cost me.
Nothing there to disagree with except I don't think the Russians could have been deterred and I don't think we could have intervened there militarily anyway
You don’t think? Now that we know how bad the Russian air forces and air defenses are? Actually, I think that if Russia crosses a line we cannot ignore, and we had to intervene, with airpower alone our effect on the Russian land forces would be catastrophic for them. Ukraine would be able to advance to its borders in a matter of weeks. Now that doesn’t speak to the risk of nuclear escalation and such, only to what we are capable of doing to Russia if it comes to it. But maybe you meant should instead of could.
The truth is always found in the middle. For decades we spent hundreds of billions to keep the paper military of Russia contained. We are just changing horses.
Russia has been fighting for nearly two years with one hand tied behind its back. That’s not the US containing Russia so much as Putin not being the wild eyed megalomaniac which is his caricature but which more closely describes the ideologues in our State Department.
Most every ship in our computers come from Taiwan, among other computer parts a technologies... what comes from the Ukraine again? Money laundering, form a dictator/communist that arrests his opposition political rivals? Yeah... that Ukrainian leader is a bad actor, pun intended.
Deep dive political analysis of the election. Nothing earth shattering but interesting Taiwan Election Results: How Lai won, what China thinks, and what’s at stake for the DPP
No. But the foreign press picks up on Xinhua press releases, which is what happened here. As a wise man once said, Xi moves in mysterious ways
I got some swamp land to sell both of you if you think China can hold a candle to us in a straight up Naval warfare. Seems like you guys are googling around and posting the first article you see that tries to go along with your position on the matter. Unfortunately for you guys, numbers mean nothing in this case and its all about the details. They have a number advantage in irrelevant ships. We have superiority where it counts. Carriers, destroyers, subs, air superiority, and technology. Not to mention experience. You aren't just going to pump out a ton of ships and think you will magically get a crew to properly man it anyway. Even today - we are far beyond anything they could try to bring to the table. They have 3 carriers to our 11. Carriers own the sea. If we dedicated just a couple of strike groups we could win a war with their Navy, much less have a 1 on 1 against China with our whole fleets involved. This is not debateable.
Politicians own militaries. They own ours. Their tentacles also reach the controls of our satellites. Money's a powerful force. Sleep tight.
Certainly true. But I would think it would indicate China isn't in a great place to launch a military attack in the short term.
Very good. You have correlated our forces ship to ship. Now what is your assessment of their standoff missiles designed to sink our ships before they can get in range? How about their aircraft versus ours? How about their land-based SAM umbrella?
Well, I hope not. Because the moment Xi thinks he has an overwhelming advantage he is going to make his move. And the President will have one hell of decision to make.
