As we begin the election season there's been a lot of articles talking about how both sides see the this election as one of doom and gloom. How many are depressed and sad over the inevitable Biden vs Trump rematch. In years past elections were about hope and how the country would improve. The 2024 Election is the first election where that doesn't even seem to be on the radar for most voters. Sadly I agree with them.

I believe we are already in a cold civil war and the two sides have never been farther apart. I think the U.S. is in real trouble and here's why:

At its most basic core, what one thing do we have in common? Long term mostly stable countries always have at least one thing among its population. It can be a variety of things. A national language, a national religion or a national ethnicity (if you're a citizen of Japan you're most likely ethnically Japanese, if you're a citizen of Italy you're most likely ethnically Italian).

If not that you have a shared culture that the population typically embraces. All Chinese celebrate the Chinese New Year for example. All Italians celebrate All Saints Day. There isn't a uniquely American holiday the U.S. celebrates as a whole anymore.

There is nothing anymore that unites the vast majority of the U.S. We don't have a national language, a national religion or a national ethnicity. We don't have a shared culture and more and more insists on insulating ourselves in our own culture. You can see Hispanics who only live in Hispanic neighborhoods, celebrate their Hispanic holidays and traditions and only speak Spanish. Those Hispanic individuals wouldn't even be able to talk to an English speaking individual never mind have anything in common with them.

Different populations in the U.S. have different cultures. Those people view other cultures as either inferior or just have no interest in learning about those cultures. Whites have no interest in learning about Black culture. Hispanics have no interest in learning about White culture. We don't have major national activities that we participate in like other countries. Going back to holidays look at Independence Day celebrations, you essentially now have whites and blacks celebrating different holidays. Whites celebrating July 4th and Blacks celebrating Juneteenth (which really annoys me just from a grammar perspective, call it June 19th, but that's for another topic).

A country where its citizens have nothing in common with each other and have no shared traits or cultures is doomed to failure.

You could argue that black Americans have more in common with black Europeans than white Americans. Same with white Americans, more in common with white Australians than black Americans. Hispanic Americans have more in common with Hispanics from various South American countries than they do white Americans.

If we don't have any shared traits, values or cultures then you have a population that will not fight for that country when times get tough. There literally isn't anything to fight for or defend.

I don't like saying it but I do believe the U.S. will end in my lifetime (I'm middle aged). I think we will see the mainland U.S. break up into 5 individual countries with Hawaii becoming an independent country again (or joining an Asian country) and Alaska becoming an independent country again (or joining Canada). It's inevitable at this point. And when people ask why the U.S. will fail I believe it will be this lack of a shared trait that almost everyone in the country shares. It gives people a reason to believe in their country, to love their country, to fight for their country. The U.S. no longer has that and history shows the U.S. in its current form can not stand long term. Election Results are irrelevant to what I see as this long term inevitability.

The shared traits are that in most communities people get up, say hi to their neighbor, appreciate the sunshine on their face and get on with their day.

The vast majority of the US population ignores politics except for about 2 weeks every 4 years before the presidential elections and some not even then.

83% of Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, a uniquely American holiday. That doesn’t count?

84% of Americans celebrate Independence Day. Another uniquely American holiday. Some black people don’t. But that’s always been the case.

If the US ultimately fails it will be solely because of ignorance over taking education. Ignorant people are easily manipulated and become pawns of those who seek power and control and division.

Exactly. I have no doubt that the OP harbors the feelings he does because of his self curated information loop in which he resides.

There is so much out of touch with reality in your post I’m not sure where to start. It’s ironic because you think the US is going to fail because of other people but really it’ll be because enough people were radicalized into believing the crap you just posted.

ps - 78% of the country speaks ONLY English at home right now in the us despite there being 350-430 languages spoken here. Since 1980, the number of people speaking only English at home has increased steadily. I bet that would surprise you.

Okay, so this is definitely Orlando. All the same language and his obsession with race and homogenous countries like Japan.

BTW, there is no such thing as racial culture and never has been. One would think that somebody claiming to be from Louisiana would know that, where, less than a month from now, the state will shut down for a week to celebrate a holiday nobody else in the country treats as a real holiday. People of every racial group in the state will do this. There is no "white" culture. There are people of Italian, French, Irish, German, Polish, Russian, British, Scandinavian, Spanish, Portuguese, etc. origin who have different religions, different traditions, different holidays, etc.

The US never has and never will have a perfectly homogenous culture. That is the whole point and what made the US unique.

I think this premise fails. Voting for Biden is a continuation of building our future in infrastructure, technology advantages, alternative energy initiatives, and maintaining strong global alliances for security, economic advancement and leadership. It's also a vote for Democracy.

Trump represents a vote against Democracy, rule of law and for chaos. For Republicans, the final stages of Limbaughism, that refuses compromise to Democrats, no matter how commonsense or moderate the legislation as a means to power, is dying off along with the hopes of hanging onto a single demographic in power. The US will continue building a multiracial, multi ethnic nation that is stronger for it.

See and in my opinion it’s the opposite. I think a vote for Biden is a vote against Democracy, a vote against the rule of law (we only enforce the rules we want to) and a vote for chaos. A vote for Biden to me makes us more likely to be involved in wars we shouldn’t be in and that alone makes us less secure and more likely to be attacked ourselves.

To be a vote for Biden and the Democrats is a vote for Communism. Democrats want complete one party Government control and to be able to punish or even eliminate their political enemies. They did it under Obama against the Tea Party and are doing it again under Biden against MAGA.

I would like to bring up two other points. First, why is your side so convinced diversity makes us stronger? Diversity of thought yes but diversity just for diversity’s sake? I don’t think diversity makes us weaker (unless you have too many people not invested into the future of the country) but I don’t believe at all that being multi-cultural makes us stronger.

Your side never elaborates how it makes us stronger. I’d like for you to provide some evidence or examples. What is something a Black person has contributed to the U.S. that a White person or an Asian person couldn’t? What is something a Hispanic person has contributed to the U.S. that a Black person or White person couldn’t?

My final point, if being multi-cultural is so great how come it is only White countries being pressured to be more multi-cultural? Why aren’t African countries like Egypt, Morocco or South Africa (black or Muslim dominated countries) being pressured to diversify? Why aren’t South American countries like Brazil, Argentina or Chile (Hispanic dominated countries) being pressured to diversify? Why aren’t Asian countries like China, Japan and South Korea being pressured to diversify? Heck why isn’t Mexico advised they would be so much better diversifying and being more multi-cultural?

If being multi-cultural is so great how come only White countries such as the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Western Europe the only ones who are having diversity forced and beaten into them?

And please don’t bring Rush Limbaugh into this. Rush was a great American and honestly was like a genuine father figure to me. I still grieve occasionally for Rush like I would a family member. Still hard to believe he’s gone. :(

And how many countries without core cultures have made it long term? History shows that the countries that have been around for thousands of years are one with a core culture and a shared identity among its citizens.

This one. There was never a common culture here, despite your claims.

If you would prefer, you could also look at multi-cultural states like China or India as well. But we both know that you don't really mean "cultural," do you?
