Abbott is trying to kill or injure illegal immigrants coming to Texas

This is a no brainer. The federal government should have cleared out these barriers long before now. And Sued Texas for a prospective injunction barring further barriers and over the cost. States can’t block navigable waterways, in this case regulated by the Ricers and Harbors Act. Period. It isn’t even an immigration issue. And Abbott knows this.

 

Except that they are a hazard to navigation. And that is a federal issue.

 

Greg Abbott Says Murder Charges Prevent Texas From Shooting Migrants

Texas Governor Greg Abbott lamented that Texas can’t shoot migrants trying to cross the border illegally because “the Biden administration would charge us with murder.”

On Jan. 5, Abbott appeared on the radio show of former NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch. During a discussion of Texas’ efforts to curb the illegal entry of migrants through the southern border, Loesch asked “what can be done, like right up to the line, where maybe they would come and say, ‘Governor you’re breaking the law we’re going to arrest you,’” in terms of border enforcement.

Abbott responded that his administration is “deploying every tool and strategy that we possibly can,” to stem the flow of immigration, including building a border wall, placing barriers in the Rio Grande, and passing legislation making illegal border crossings a state crime.

“The only thing that we’re not doing is we’re not shooting people who come across the border because of course, the Biden administration would charge us with murder,” Abbott added. The governor’s comments were resurfaced on Thursday by Heartland Signal.

 

So he wants to just mow them down? Nice.

 

This stuff on immigration is just getting nuts. Like... how has the solution become violence? The GOP has become their own worst enemy on this. They have effectively surrendered the moral high ground, on just about every issue. But how they approach people entering the country from the south has become just bonkers.

Let's be clear, what these state guardsmen did here is illegal. And it killed people. It's time to stop playing around. If they want to violate federal law, tell them they can enjoy federal lock-up. UPDATE: TMD Investigation into Migrant Drownings - Texas Military Department

AUSTIN, Texas (Jan. 14, 2024) – The Texas Military Department has continued a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the drowning of migrants in the Rio Grande. Claims of Border Patrol requesting access to save distressed migrants are inaccurate.

Claims that TMD prevented Border Patrol from saving the lives of drowning migrants are wholly inaccurate. At the time that Border Patrol requested access, the drownings had occurred, Mexican Authorities were recovering the bodies, and Border Patrol expressed these facts to the TMD personnel on site.

TMD Soldiers were in direct communication with Border Patrol on the evening of 12 January when Border Patrol requested access to Shelby Park. Soldiers confirmed that when Border Patrol requested access to the park they stated that Mexican Authorities had already recovered the bodies of two drowned migrants.

Border Patrol specifically requested access to the park to secure two additional migrants that were presumed to have traveled with the deceased, though had crossed to the boat ramp. Two migrants were apprehended by TMD, with one turned over to DPS and the other transferred to EMS in response to initial hypothermic conditions. Additionally, TMD remained engaged with lights, night vision goggles, and thermals to ensure that no additional migrants were in the river or in distress.
