The Gainesville Sun has an article titled something to the effect of “Golden and Kugel clear the air in meeting”, but it’s behind a paywall.

    Anyone have a sub?

I'm concerned as to how this can happen. Hopefully we'll see improvement.

That's what I think. We run plays he's been ignoring or just takes a step back three.

I'm gonna opine that this sitting was more about attitude than on court play. Sure, yank him when he takes a couple dumb shots, but that in itself should not be grounds for a second half benching. Other players made dumb plays as well. When coach sez "we were not on the same page," it's a euphemism for "we were having an argument." Riley may have spouted off during halftime or had some not so favorable words from the bench.

Edit: And if this was indeed the case, it better get straightened out stat. Otherwise, you've got an ongoing issue which is harmful for the team.

Well whatever was said seems to have worked. Kugel looked like the real deal today. He even smiled a bit.

yes. It was an excellent matchup for Riley, as arky really struggles to defend the drive.

    Lol.

I was OK with those today given the game situation. If our bigs could hit from deep well enough to draw out the D, it would be an absolute game changer.

Methinks there was some "tough love" and Kugel was given the opportunity to absolve some of his demons. We shall see where it all leads with Tennessee and Auburn.

BTW, Arkansas has got to be THE bizarre team of the SEC. Not sure what is going on. And I think UGa and White are getting ready for the clock to strike 12 shortly. It IS his nature.

Riley‘s game is not fundamentally sound enough right now for him to consistently play good games. He needs to limit his three-point shots to catch and shoot step in jump shots. Riley ought to watch Walter Clayton when he gets in the paint to see how it’s done. Walter has a variety of ways to score when he gets inside and he usually selects the best one. Riley is all about taking the ball right to the hole and then trying to figure out how to score when he gets there. That does not work very well.

Riley also needs to do a much better job of protecting the ball. He constantly exposes the ball to defenders and does not use his body to ward off defenders. He is way too careless with the ball in his hands. The opportunity is there for Riley to become a great player, and he might do so when he gets to the NBA. However, he has a lot of things to work on right now to excel at the college game.

    Good points.
Clayton and Pullin both use craftiness to get in the lane, not explosiveness. Riley has explosiveness but not craftiness. Imagine how good he could be if he used both.

We went through this same debate last year with KR.
If someone doesn’t appear bought in to what you are trying to do, the last thing you do is put them into a game where there’s already a lack of quality effort and fight.
Todd appears to have learned from last year though. He hit the problem harder and earlier this time around, and Riley seems to have responded. Hopefully it lasts.

In that Arkansas game, Samuel seems to do much better in hitting those two mid-range jumpers rather than the two missed 3-ptrs.

Obviously their games are different. There "skill" in driving to the basket are pretty much the same. That was what I was replying to. It is frustrating, at least up to now.
