What happens when a STAR player or group of star players - publicly threatens to transfer if an administration fires a coach.

I hope this doesn't happen but imagine if Lagway, Graham and Trey make a comment after a bad Miami loss to start the season that if they will transfer if coach is fired in 2024.

seems the players could really influence the decision.

maybe that's a good thing to stop unruly fan bases from being impatient.

I'm in the pro Napier group, but I have to be completely honest and say IF he losses to that miami team, outside of some massive injuries, then he won't survive at UF. They basically have 2 guys to scheme against, Restrepo at WR & Bain at DE. Also it being at home would be a kiil shot for a loss.

Agree that I don’t see a way Napier can survive at UF if he loses the Miami game.

With regards to players I don’t think threats like that are to be feared. Coaches leave for more money, players leave for more money, loyalty is dead.

On the flip side, the scary part is what happens (amd not just at UF) if the star players demand a coach be fired or they transfer. Its a slippery slope that I don't even want to think about.

I wish people would stop with the loyalty angle.
Yes there are players that go to a school they have always loved but the rules in the past were never in the players favor.
In the past there was not a free transfer, you lost a year of eligibility if you did period. Conferences penalized you by limiting your choice of transfer by not allowing you to move within the conference. You were basically stuck at your first choice. Some grew to love the school while others don't have fond memories.

So the fact that players were more loyal is a simplistic view. If they had the same rules as today they would have taken advantage of them.

So is the sociology department in the process of designing a test to determine school, brand loyalty? Did you leave UF when things got tough? Did you like every instructor?

That is not even a comparison, but if it makes you feel better have at it.

Thinking more about. Students have the option to drop classes every semester. Some will even change schools if they went out of state and realized they would rather be closer to home.

If players are given that much authority it will mean that the inmates are running the asylum. Why have all those coaches we just hired or even the AD. Bring on the back yard football.

If you like your boss and he gets fired, you’re free to go find a job elsewhere, aren’t you?

It doesn’t even need to be said. Many players will transfer.

But OTOH if a coach can’t win with his “stars” then it’s a risk worth taking.
