Odd indeed. Bama fans will slather him in BBQ sauce.

Good 5th choice. The first 4 were too smart to follow Saban.

 

20 years ago he was the OC at Sioux Falls, 10 years ago the OC at Eastern Michigan, now Alabama.

 

He took over a 4-8 P5 program and presided to go 25-3 and had them in the NCG at the end of Y2. I like his process.

The question will be can he fit in down here and recruit, particularly on defense.

 

Indeed, his process includes winning.

Will he be able to recruit nearly to the level of Saban? Unlikely. Texas the favorite now to be the #1 challenger to UGa.

 

Michael Penix plus speedy receivers plus Pac 12 equals quick turnaround. May be a good hire or may be just a guy who caught lightning in a bottle. Time will tell. He's sure to be given the resources to succeed. You have to be crazy to try to follow the GOAT, though.

 

This is a great hire. Next urban Meyer. This guy just wins. Took less than 2 years to get Washington to title game. Seems like the right coach can turn around a program quickly regardless of holes. (Cue up the “well it’s the pac12, Mullen left the cupboard bare etc)


Or…. It could be Harsin 2.0

 

Could be a bit of both, he can get those types all he wants at Bama. Only difference is schedule

 

NIL and winning is how you recruit these days. He will recruit fine

This is the worst possible hire for us. He’s an absolutely elite coach and a perfect coach for the modern era.

 

Yep, he’s an absolute stud. Wins everywhere and consistently.

Bama is a different beast though, but he has the best chance of continuing success than any other options (ex Kirby). He’s a much better hire than Lanning.

Wellllllll, it was the PAC12 and Mullen did leave the cupboard bare…..if you’re denying that then you don’t understand strength of schedules and probably thought Boise St and UCF should have NCs. He may be great at Bama, yes it’s going to be hard to follow Saban but last I checked Saban didn’t leave the program in shambles like we have had…..over and over again, in the hardest conference to have success in.

 

This hire may serve to keep the recruits onboard.

 

Deboer is the blueprint for how to win with less talent (which he won’t have to do at Bama)- you do it through high level complex passing game. 5-0 vs teams with more talent before losing to Michigan. Him and Grubb can call plays. Love to see that at Florida again. I’m hoping Billy now realizes we aren’t ever gonna have top 5 classes and we have to create an edge

 

Damn, a better hire than I had expected. He has won at an impressive rate.
Still, if I was a Bama fan, I'd have preferred Lanning who already has ties to the area.

Texas and ole miss fans can breathe a sigh of relief. I can't believe Norvell was ever an option.
