The sad part is that the players today that transfer because they "just want to win" are not owning up to the fact that they were part of the losing. They just want to jump onboard something that someone else has worked hard to create somewhere else instead of staying to fix what they maybe helped break. Not a good life approach.
Qbs need to start the slide much earlier instead of trying to get every inch possible. It’s football. Slide way early or get hit. I say, if you can get hit before your ass hits the ground, you slid to late.
It’s a pretty big machine with a lot of parts. We weren’t doing much right over the last decade. We just got all our toys built or being built. Money flow had to be rerouted to fit the model of the successful programs. New staff, needs a lot of tweaks. If Napier succeeds, I’m not at all surprised it didn’t happen yet. It’s not easy. Hardball took a while to get it rolling and they aren’t at the forefront of buying top 3 classes every year. There’s a lot more to it, stability was involved there. Fsu tried the quick fix and did have some success but where are they next year. Their pipeline isn’t so dependable just yet. Washington is another stable school that beat Texas who is buying every player in sight.
Great points Wanne. Why I continue to support Napier. And in as much as I understand it, Napier is attempting to rebuild UF from the foundations on up. Throw in NIL, Transfer Portal, Conference Re-Alignment and what we used to know as College Football is a different animal. Obviously there are winners and losers. FSU was a clear "winner" at the transfer portal game. Programs like tamu, texas, miami, have been successful in the N.I.L. game and as a "highest bidder". Regrettably this business (coaching) has a spectacularily short "shelf life" and I think the new way to do "bizness" has made coaching even more difficult considering coaches now have to recruit H.S. kids and the "existing roster" ever year.
they did go 13-1 and won their conference with almost every single contributor being a player from the transfer portal. I think that constitutes a good season/result for at least that one season. Much as I hate them.
True, but, they also just went on two-year probation for improper NIL/recruiting by their boy-wonder OC. Hard to believe anyone can break almost non-existent NIL rules, much less have the NCAA actually enforce them. But, I think only Miami and fsu have managed to do that three years into NIL.
Who cares? Did there fans not get to enjoy 13-0? I'll trade 5 scholarships for 13-0 in a heartbeat. Sign me up.
Fox, I'm so confused about college football I no longer know up from down. Myself, I have always felt the key to winning at UF was to dominate top 100 recruiting in the state, I still belive that because the Portal offers no guarantees.
I hear you. I'm still enjoying watching our players who want to be at UF and our staff working hard but outside of that I can't take my eyes off of the train wreck.
It is, but now you have to beat 5-6 out of State schools that recruit FL better than UF does and keep them once they get here. Used to be that FL schools got the Filet and the out of state schools got the sirloin out of FL. That has been completely reversed by $$
Add in that some of those top ranked kids aren't really florida kids, just kids that transferred to one of the football factories now located here.
For sure paid, High School football is getting like College now if the pundits I follow are to be believed.
It's arguably worse. They're allowing mid season transfers and now have top kids jumping to playoff teams at the end of the season.
