The chatter our there is that Dan Lanning already turned down the Bama job. And he wasn't even on that list.

DeBoer, who incidentally, I listed as a hypothetical for UF if BN were to not work out in some thread months back.

I think he would take it. And I would be amused to see Ole Miss melt down the way Tennessee did, especially certain players who jumped over to Ole Miss via the Portal.

But I don’t think Alabama would offer.

Smart and Lanning apparently out. How many more before the dreaded promote from within to save face?

I don't think they'll go with the easy yes with either Kiffin or Swinney.

I’d say from within is a better chance than those above. That’s a good list, I just don’t see them happening.

On paper, I think Dabo makes the most sense, but these processes aren’t always sensible. Some guys will get raises and extensions just for having their names mentioned. Some agents are licking their chops right now, while some fan bases are pacing nervously. Let the chaos begin!

Promote from within and hire the best available in three years is better than that option.

Frankly, I would love to see Norvell take it. SWAC would go into another tailspin after being a starter wife twice in the modern era.

FWIW, Joel Klatt thinks it’s DeBoer, and Sexton is a crucial cog in the wheel…

“And here's what I do know: Sexton is going to control Alabama's search — every bit of it. He controls every chess piece on the board. He represents Steve Sarkisian, Dan Lanning, Mike Norvell, Dabo Swinney, James Franklin, all of whom were floated as potential candidates at some point.”

Klatt: Why all signs point to Kalen DeBoer replacing Nick Saban at Alabama | FOX Sports

Yep, looks like he’s getting a strong look, might even be on the pole position right now. What he’s done to date has been very impressive. Bama is a whole different animal though. fwiw, he is in the Jimmy Sexton stable.

“DeBoer, 49, inherited a 4-8 program in Seattle and has gone 25-3 — with two bowl wins, a Pac-12 title and a national championship berth — in the two seasons since. He’s 104-12 in nine seasons as a college head coach.“

UW Huskies’ Kalen DeBoer a ‘serious contender’ for Alabama job, reports say

DeBoer has spent his entire playing and coaching career in the upper Midwest and West Coast, UW is now in the Big 10, do you think he wants to head to the deep South?

Edit: nevermind just looked it up, he makes 4.2 Mil at UW. Bama will probably start him out at 7 Mil.

Maybe, Washington isn't a top of the pyramid job and life will be hard out there vs the big10.
