    Not familiar with the Barbie Map controversy. The DOE spokesperson said it was a map of countries that speak Arabic and I don’t believe there is a country recognized as Palestine. However, you are correct about the image and it’s hard to make out borders on it.

    There are regions legally recognized under international law in that area as not being Israel, depending on what international standards are used. The State of Palestine has observer status at the UN and is recognized by 139 nations. The map does subsume Israel as part of Palestine, which no body of international law does. But as noted earlier, there are far more maps out there that do the opposite, i.e., just wiping out Palestinian lands

    The State of Palestine has been accepted as an observer state of the United Nations General Assembly in November 2012. As of 2 June 2023, 139 of the 193 United Nations (UN) member states have recognized the State of Palestine. In contrast Israel is recognized by 165.

    True, there are over 100 countries that recognize Palestine, but the US is not one of them.
