Here’s a scenario to ponder. Tim Tebow said that his decision of what school to attend came down to Urban Meyer at Florida and Mike Shula at Alabama. If he had chosen Alabama, perhaps Shula isn’t fired that year. If Shula wasn’t fired, then Alabama would not have hired Nick Saban. Sabin would’ve gone on to coach somewhere else. The landscape would’ve been entirely different.

Also possible, Shula is fired anyway and Nick Saban is hired and then Sabin has Tim Tebow as quarterback. That would be a nightmare scenario.

I think I’ll stick with the actual history and keep Tim a Gator. :D

Plus, Bama lost its competitive advantage when NIL arrived.

People choose to retire for many different reasons.

But the way college football has changed recently with NIL and the transfer portal........that had to have been a huge factor in his decision to step down.

    You make a great point!

I mean some people would say when you win the SEC Championship beating the #1 team in the country & two-time National Champions - and go 12-2 - that that's a good season.

    Ha.....we know better though, don't we! ;)

I prefer the other scenario that could have and should have happened. The dolphins trade for Brees like he had wanted and Saban stays in the NFL long enough to not go to Bama. Don't know if that's folklore or not but the story was that was the straw Tha broke the camels back for him. He wanted total control and Bama gave it to him.

Lanning would be nuts to leave Oregon for Bama.

and I don't have a clue if it will be Lanning but there are very few sources I would trust. Most or just trying to scope everyone else, accuracy is not important.

Hopefully whomever they hire runs Bama into the ground so hard they replace Vandy as the SEC doormat.

Who would’ve ever thought Colette “we ballin baby” Connell was a renowned soothsayer way back then. :D

I'm thinking the only logical conclusion is one William Lawrence Muschamp!

Lane seems the logical replacement. He’d do great with the talent they got, and he is thick skinned enough to deal with the heat of following Saban.

I wouldn’t have said it a couple of years ago, but Lane would be my pick if Napier were shown the door.

He might be ideal in the SEC, he knows how to handle stiff opposition.

Agreed, there's lots of people acting like they know for sure what's going on, so having said that... the betting lines for the next Bama coach after Lanning was Norvell and DeBoer. Word is Lane Kiffin wants the job but many on the committee would be against him getting the job.
