Cashius Howell. Looked promising, but arms are now too short.

Yeah, I would like another qb too....just don't think you can get quality with Mertz back and Lagway in the wings. And we simply have to get Lagway a fair amount of reps, so that third guy probably doesn't factor in unless injuries hit us
Clearly AF TE would indicate they want a blocking stud added....I would prefer Hansen/Livingston take that role while Boardingham, Jackson, and maybe Zipp(if healthy) give us the receiving threat. We have enough guys and plenty of youth.

    100%.
It’s always an unknown as to how someone’s ability translates from a smaller conference to the SEC. But there definitely appears to be some intriguing guys coming in.

Not that he's asking for help but I have to say Shane's takes on this thread may or may not be accurate but he is taking a constructive and supportive stance in my opinion. I certainly have called him out on some other issues and topics but this isn't one of them. Furthermore, the discussion elicited from his remarks has been interesting and informative during a relatively quiet time.

I wonder if the TE spot hangs on Zipperer. He has a season available to play.

This is important. With all the guys in the early portal, it is key not bring too many players in just for depth and be way over 85. We have to have some space for unknown quality additions after spring. I would hope that this is where the army of analysts can really provide some value in evaluating players quickly and limiting the number invited to visit and sign now.

he committed to A&M today. Third highly productive transfer DE/edge rusher they have gotten in the portal in past week. This one stings. No edge player on roster with more than 3 career sacks. Combined sack total of all edge guys on roster is like 5-6 sacks. Potential, yes, but we need some proven players to succeed next season.

They are now listing Scooby as an edge ( his actual position) so that’s 4 I think.
Billy has 9 guys so far out of portal. That in itself is an accomplishment. Let’s hope he keeps going as we need several more out of portal and there will be more attrition.

Think Gumbs took Howell's spot, which would seem to indicate they won't take an another edge unless it's an absolute stud. Think Pup could be worked in to that slot as well

    Is he serious?

I am blocked by him now. This should be a right of passage for any Gator fan who takes off the Orange and Blue glasses to see that our emperor has no clothes.

Poor Hal, soon, he will be talking to himself.

Hal knows a whole lot more than the overwhelming majority.....and re Howell he is 100% correct. Wasn't the size UF wanted, period.

Hal is correct, we have tons of talent that played & played well. Losing out on Howell is honestly a "meh", let our young guys play in this new D and we'll be laughing at TAMU flounder on D all season.

Just my opinion - but many seem to be seriously downplaying our need for Edge players that have experience and production.

we didn’t really want Howard due to size? Really? He is the same size as Waller who we recruited heavily. Howard may not have ideal size but that doesn’t mean he can’t succeed. He had more sacks last season than our entire defensive line/edge players had in their entire careers COMBINED.

this doesn’t mean he would dominate at UF or that current players cannot step up and have great success. But more and experienced depth would be huge. What happened last year after Boone went down? We didnt have anyone step up. What if Searcy misses games? Pyburn coming off ACL injury. McCray a true freshman. (Most sack a UF true freshman has done in sacks in like 15-20 years is 3.5).

outside of a few seasons where Polite, Greenard, and Zuniga did well, we have been lacking severely in pass rush and saying the young guys will step up. I think it would be a bad decision to not bring in portal help that has some proven production (I don’t consider Gumbs 3 sacks proven production).
