Still no hire of a new LB coach to replace Bateman. There is some chatter today about Ron Roberts landing here. Currently the Auburn DC but might get run off by Freeze after only one season, see his OC also. Roberts was Billy’s DC at ULL for 2 seasons before going to Baylor. Not sure how credible the talk is, or who else is in the hopper, we’ll see. The contact period opens back up on Friday so they need to get a coach in place soon.
TOS confirming we are interested in him...he was apparently in hog town this past weekend. TOS indicates he has multiple options but has not made a final decision.
Haven't we had enough of these Louisiana coaches? Did Auburn have a good defense? Plus isn't it a demotion to go from DC to Linebacker coach? Or is Armstrong getting demoted?
Auburn Tigers 2023 Regular Season NCAAF Schedule - ESPN Their defense was not why they lost games. Apparently he runs the same defense as armstrog with more experience. He had the number one scoring defense at Baylor in 2021. Don't know what happened to them in 2022. Again, auburns offense lost them games. If you see this as a bad thing without bothering to do even a little research then you're just bitching just to bitch. Especially if the rumors that there was a lack of cohesion amongst the defensive staff last year are true.
Maybe you didn't watch the bowl game. The Auburn defense wasn't what you call stellar? I was asking a question since I saw the bowl and was not impressed with their defense. Where did they fall rank wise in the SEC since you are an expert. Gee, they gave up 31 to New Mexico State who got waxed in their bowl.
You asked multiple pointless questions one being a rhetorical shot at Napier. The yet another Louisiana coach was also a coach at Baylor and auburn .. Casual fan simp reasoning. You watched one game...... no need to continue. Whine on.. Edit: I came on a little strong in this reply but your "questions" were disingenuous.
TOS now reporting we will hire him as executive head coach for defense, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. TOS board is stoked (they are very hard to please)...very experienced and successful coach!
This is a big hire. It’s ok to be critical of Napier’s game day coaching ability. But you gotta praise the way he’s trying to get this corrected. This is a great hire for a side of the ball that hasn’t been this bad in my lifetime. If Billy is going down, he’s going down swinging, I can respect that.
Not sure I see how this hierarchy works but I'm sure Napier has thought this out. Would be great if this hire excites some portal guys we are trying to close with.
He has run the same defenses as AA and has very successful defenses in multiple conferences. This is a potentially very good hire that gets more assistant coaches who are on the same page with defense. This hire (excluding recruiting) blows Bateman out of the water. The rumored replacement for AU, the DC at Colorado, is a step back for AU. This move looks pre-arranged.
Heck of a title. He's a heavyweight that will fit in well having worked with a Napier and Armstrong. Time to get the feckin defense straightened out and back to formidable.
From the title, wouldn't this make him AA's superior? Executive Head Coach for Defense seems to be a higher title and someone the Defensive Coordinator would report to.
It’ll make the transition to “interim head coach for the FSU game” much easier. I’m kidding… I’m kidding.
Who knows since he's also co-DC? But as long as they integrate well together then it doesn't much matter.
