Yes I understand. That’s part of the disconnect between what the legislation actually does and parents having discomfort with extensive discussions of sex and gender in school, which in reality probably never happens.

 

Yes I understand. I don’t support the legislation. I suspect most people if they really understood what the legislation does wouldn’t support it either.

 

My guess is that we have over 40 million LGBTQ+ people living in this country of which over 3 million are transgender.

I just wish they’d keep things like LGBTQIA+ and Climate Change in the home.

 

That would be dramatically higher than it has historically been. I mean does it really make sense from an evolutionary perspective that 10-15% of the population is born with a different gender or sexual orientation?

I agree 100%, it's like the left handed graph upthread, but is 20%+ of GenZ outsized?

 

There may be some limited amount of social contagion, at least in answering surveys, as opposed to actual conduct.

But the point about the next generation remains regardless of the actual statistics. No matter how zealous the social conservatives create laws to "quash" "faddish" gender nonconformity, thinking that it is produced through "woke" influence and can be controlled legally, the next generation will dismiss it as nothing but ignorant performative cruelty (which it is), and look back on history and their ancestors with nothing but contempt on this issue.

 

Agreed. Unfortunately the rebellious responses give fuel to the cruel narrative of woke/grooming.

If I had to guess Gen Alpha, or whatever it is that comes after Gen Z, will regress to the mean (somewhere in the 10-12%?), this will one day be in the rearview mirror and there will be a new outgroup to villainize. Changing societal views on these things is generational.

 

Whatever the percentage of praxis is, the percentage of those that favor full social acceptance, opposing anything like we see now, will be over 60%.

I feel as confident of that as one can be about future predictions.

Don't know the show, I assume it had a strong positive LGBTQ message. Is MAX going un-woke, or was the show just not good? Truly don't know.

 

Max is broke, looking for places to cut. They took on too much debt in the acquisition and they are trying to get more lowbrow generally, although True Detective Season 4 is supposed to be awesome. I renewed, at least temporarily, for that show alone. Plus they have another season of The Last of Us. And Hacks. But overall they're cutting back their original premium content.

Our Flag Means Death was good but not great and likely didn't generate the numbers. It was Taiki Watiti so we watched.

Who knows why it was not renewed? I just know it was very popular among the younger set because it envisioned a love story between Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman pyirate, who were real historical figures and interacted but there's no suggestion in history that they were romantically attached or had same sex attraction. The overall tone of it was farcical, like Wellington Paranormal or What We Do in the Shadows, and it was pretty funny at times.
