I’m thinking we are still going to need a lot of attrition by Fall based on the numbers we are bringing. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is a bad thing.

 

Probably see a few depart after spring ball. Guys will see where they are compared to others and look for thinner rosters.

Billy HAS to stay aggressive in the portal. Initially, I said like 11 guys. Due to all of the attrition/transfers we have seen I am amending that to 15/16 needed out of portal. At least 7-8 will need to be immediate starters.

I was gonna rebutal with some factual details, but your info here is a mess. Just a mistaken flaming hot take. Nothing to rebutal.

Daniels will be a Aub/Fla/Texas battle. Has visited Auburn was at Florida Saturday and Texas Sunday.

 

When it’s all said and done our portal pick ups will be in the teens. Look at the number that have transferred and the number of high school guys that decommitted. We’ve got roster openings. If Yam, Daniels, and Qb from Ark. St. commit we are at 11 transfer portal guys already and that’s still with the spring portal. Numbers dictate it we are well on our way to those numbers. Not sure what’s flaming.

Quite a few will need to be impact guys due to the fact that we’ve lost several starters. Not sure what’s flaming about that.
From our first group of signees several could be immediate impact or starters:

Slackman- starter
Crenshaw- starter
Pup Howard- starter
Dike- could be our 3 or 4 at WR
Bridges- possible starter
Douglas- Definite possible starter.


that’s 6 right there. And that’s not counting the fact that Manuel was a starter at Arkansas.

Get Yam and Daniels and there are 2 more immediate impact/starters. This team will look very different this year and I’m good with that.

 

I would only quibble with you a little on whether some will definitely start, but CBN said he brings in transfers to push to start. We can choose not to accept that and say he is flailing and adding warm bodies to make up for high school misses. Some transfers with multiple years could be to replace misses in recruiting, but most are meant for immediate impact.

 

You are already reeling back the part of the post that Donzo objected to...."15/16 needed out of the portal" has become "in the teens" and "7/8 will need to be immediate starters" hs become "immediate impact or starters". For example, Pup could have impact for sure but he may not be an immediate starter, same with Douglas, Dike. And the more guys we add the that will knock others out of that starting role.
As for roster openings, right now we do not have room to add the numbers you were initially talking about. We will likely lose more after spring, but even then that 15/16 number is likely too high.

 

I like how Napier is avoiding castoffs. A calculated gamble but it appears the guys we're getting want to work.

By the end of the year, I can see 8-10 portal guys starting. But, how does UF "need 7/8 to start"? Myself, I think UF needs one of the OTs to start and probably a vetran DB, too. After that I don't see the need. I think Slackman starts at the 3-technique, but Lyons could start as well.

So, yes; UF needs most of the portal additions to be positive contributors, which is common sense; why else bring them in? Just only "need" 1 to 4 to be starters. We'll know more after spring.

 

My guess as it stands now....Bridges and Denson battle for star, Douglas and Thornton battle at S....I think Slackman and an OT start, think a portal WR starts. That puts us at 3-5 portal starts.
But that 15/16 portal target is just too high under almost any scenario. I'm kind of hoping they don't use a ship on another QB.....have some quality walkon guys, and the odds are that any guy we bring in won't be much better if it all (and if we get to that we are likely screwed anyway). I keep hearing about the Air Force TE, I'm meh on that too...ride the young guys. I would like another WR, a true CB, Yam, maybe another OL or DL. My guess is they bring in another 3-4 for now

I don't know the TE. I already like the young TEs, so it's not urgent to me. I would like another QB. Two just seems crazy low. Probably wouldn't be better than the PWOs, so you have a point.
