Richard picked the worst game to go cold from the 3-point line. If he hits 2 of the 7 which is below his percentage, we win. Samuel also had a non-factor offensive game. Both players have to be more aggressive and productive in SEC games going forward.
Congrats on the win, Jeff....look forward to the re-match on the 31st! Our team played very hard tonight against a very good team and deserve our respect. GO Gators!
I agree with everything, but you can’t blame the free throw shooting only on being tired because we shoot them bad at the beginning as well as the end of the game.
I agree the biggest issue with this team is defense...TG needs to come up with several defensive packages but we play the same D the whole game. Teams getting comfortable on offense not even having to worry what defense we are in. This team needs to set a goal of no more than 35 points a half and they will win a ton of games. You win championships with defense...the great Gator teams had incredible defensive players especially on the interior...this team has plenty of offensive talent and interior players to rebound...they just need to play better defense.
The second part that I forgot to mention in my previous post is that FT shooting is contagious. I mean that. If others around you on your team are hitting at a high rate, it puts pressure on you to do the same and vice versa if others start shooting poorly. I think we are sadly a bad FTs partly because of this (other factors as well). Sounds strange I know but FTs is psychological too I promise you it is. If you truly believe you are a good FT shooting team, you can become one if the work is put in. However, if you think you are bad at it, it wont matter regardless of the work.
Yes we have to play much better defense, which means players will get tied quicker, so you have to sub liberally to keep everyone fresh.
A large part of being a top team is learning how to win close games. We did not look beaten today but we still have a way to go. We have a very good team. I think we will improve throughout the season.
Florida Basketball: 5 key takeaways from Gators XXX Kentucky Wildcats 8-20 shooting 3's the first half, 1-11 the second half.
I know this could be viewed as home town bias, but I swear it seems the refs allowed a defensive intensity with Kentucky that wasn't also allowed for Florida...particularly the second half
If we play smarter and make FTs we wouldn’t be having these conversations. It was on us ! Can’t make excuses any more ! In all our sports . Sometimes you gotta go out and win the “dad blame thing”
