Divorce yourself from your personal musical preference. I probably hate 3/4 of the music posted here, but love it for its expression. Is it honest/sincere? How the hell can I know, but so much of it is convicted and emblematic of our human rights and spirit.

Not kidding. Scarborough Fair (the event, not the song) started six or seven centuries ago. I'm genuinely curious about what the song, which itself is hundreds of years old, is protesting. Now, since you seem so sure about the nature of its protest, would you be so kind as to help me out?

Generals order their soldiers to kill.
And fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten.
That doesn't sound like protest lyrics to you?

Thank you for responding. It was a genuine Q. Those lyrics have nothing to do with the original song, which is why I asked about its status as a protest song. Apparently Simon & Garfunkel co-opted this centuries old folk song to protest the Vietnam war? To be clear, though, "Scarborough Fair" was not a Vietnam War protest song.

All time great song, album, and musical duo. I somehow didn’t even notice that Les passed. RIP.

Not as famous as the one you posted, but still another great song by Melanie. It’s amazing how she could make wailing sound beautiful.

I bought my first Melanie album from a discount table out in front of the UF bookstore.

Indiscriminate use of seasoning during the holidays. Some people can't stop at parsley, sage, & rosemary. They have to ruin it with the thyme.

The song I immediately thought of for some reason was Neil Young's Keep on Rockin' in the Free World.

One of my first was “We’re Not Gonna Take It” by Twisted Sister. It was early in the thread and wasn’t sure how it’d be received. (Plus, I didn’t see a clip I liked of it from the movie Iron Eagle).
