First of all, what we're talking about really isn't NIL at all. It's "pay to play". I don't think anybody is really getting paid NIL money.

As for the part about changing schools and double dipping, I don't think that's really quite the case, but I may be wrong. I believe when they throw out a figure like $1M, that's probably based on the number of years of eligibility. I don't think any kid gets that as an up front lump sum. Anyone who would do that is an idiot and deserves to lose that money. For Judkins, assuming he has 2 years of eligibility, he's probably asking for $500,000 per year for each of the next 2 years.

It sounds to me like he's actually just threatening to enter portal expecting somebody at Ole Miss to pay him $500K.

Are there written contracts documenting all of this? I seriously doubt it, because as post #22 above notes, it's not NIL at all, but pay to play. The NIL people don't want to document THAT.

So how do you stop players hopping from one school to the next then, if there are no written contracts?

The whole thing is some sort of alternate reality, that defies all common business conventions.

People in the have said “this staff will not overvalue the running back position when it comes to spending money “which may be one of the reasons ETN left… I doubt they go after him… Although he is an absolute beast and fits our offense, perfectly… One cut, north south, violent runner calls. We run.

If you aren’t writing contracts, you’re an idiot. You’re limited on what you can require though. Knowing what’s excluded, I have to assume the contracts are location based. If I were writing/funding them, I would require monthly engagements of some sort, in Gainesville. I’m not though, so your guess is as good as mine on how they’re actually written.

I think we're in almost complete agreement. I agree that there are probably no signed contracts. My point is that a school doesn't pay the kid all the money up front. Contract or not, I have to believe the player only gets paid a certain portion for each year they're actually on roster and it may be broken into weekly or biweekly installments. I'd guess a portion of the money may be based on performance So to your point, there's no way to keep them from jumping each year.

I totally agree it's crazy and needs to be changed. I said before they the NCAA allowed NIL to get pushed through that they were opening pandora's box and once it's opened, there's probably no closing it. And the thing that makes me mad and has lessened my interest in college football is that there were probably less than a dozen college football players each year that really deserved to be compensated above the scholarships they already got. These are the face of college football each year, like Tim Tebow, Johnny Manziel, Trevor Lawrence. I bet there are less than a dozen college players who actually have an image that's recognizable enough to be marketable.

I bet almost nobody outside of maybe some Ole Miss fans, that would even recognize Judkins right now. That may change next year if he's a Heisman candidate.

The school doesn’t pay any of this directly.

The NCAA didn’t allow this to get pushed through. They fought their asses off to prevent it, and lost in court. They should have tried to come to agreement before they got their ass kicked in the courtroom, but they sat on their hands. Now they’re screwed and don’t have the power to do anything about it, or the power to get the kids to negotiate some type of cba.

And now we're in this lame scenario of the schools not being able to pay directly when the whole argument was that they were making millions and not paying the players. They're still making millions and not paying the players, and the fans are now having to pick up the tab for players to get paid.

Lol, the fans/alumni always covered the majority of the big expenses for the schools. Even if they change the laws and get the schools paying directly, they will still rely heavily on the fans to fund it. NIL will still be around and they’ll need/want the fans/almuni to continue to fund that too.

    pretty cool, ain’t it?

Yep, a huge loss for ole miss imo, one of the best backs in the sec. Last I heard Auburn was the favorite and he is from the Montgomery area I think, so closer to home if that matters.

I know it won’t ever happen because there’s always going to be at least one school desperate enough to pay up; however, I would love for one of these players to enter the portal, “demand” a certain amount, and have nobody pay up. They whore themselves out and nobody drives by and rolls down the window, and they’re left hangin’ with nowhere to go.
