They started a podcast called The OG’s They go into their time at FL quite a bit The OGs on Apple Podcasts
Thanks for finding and posting 108. The Gator greats reminiscing. Interesting to hear Donovan talking about how he approached recruiting.
There are so many unbelievably cool things in that podcast. The comments on NIl, the portal are so spot on, and the discussion on sacrifice and resiliency, WOW! I didn't realize that Noah, Horford etc., came back for another season--and our second natty-- because Taurean Green wasn't going to get drafted. Talk about loyalty, and great teammates. Those qualities that college athletes used to embody were why so many of us loved college sports. Now...all selfishness, and greed. No loyalty, no willingness to sacrifice for your team. My how quickly things changed. Sad.
Just finished listening to every minute. WoW - thanks for sharing. Donovan was able to be so genuine because he truly loves those guys and they return the feeling. BTW - OG = original gangsters? BTW #2 - NSFW, esp. with all the MF bombs from Haslem. It's fun to hear him be so real when his NBA career was the stuff of legends. He's got a certain it factor that very few have.
Great interview and great insights into Gator lore and in basketball in general. The NCAA might want to sit down and talk to these guys together about transfer rules. BD's thoughts about the portal jumping not preparing guys for the working world is spot on.
He’s certainly on the Mt Rushmore. Mouse has quite an argument though, 12 national championships isn’t nothing.
SOS and BD are the most prominent faces on Gator Mount Rushmore. I'd have to say that SOS made UF a national brand more than any other Gator coach, though. He even transformed the SEC into THE conference in football.
I flip and flop on him and SOS although several spring sport coach's have far surpasssed both in championships.
Haslem was dropping some serious F Bombs in that interview as mentioned by Gatordavis............seemed to roll right over Billys back. It was a fun interview. Billy took it all in stride and shared some cool stories.
Wasn't Mike Miller the player that Roy Williams accused Billy of cheating to land? If I'm right, it's pretty clear from that podcast that Billy didn't cheat to land him. Donovan cared about his players and had developed relationships with them, and they cared about him.
