I said in an old thread that the way Bama got to the playoffs then they were the favorite, with my second choice Washington. Penix IS a transcendent QB who plays within his skills. And the whole damn team is tough as nails. That is a deadly combination.

Michigan is going to have to play at an elite level to win the NC. We shall see whether they have it or whether they put it on autopilot because they don't respect a non-SEC or B1G opponent.

About the only thing I saw that made the game "interesting" was the 3rd down call on Washington's last scoring drive. They gave Penix a chance to throw the ball when it was much more important to run it and make Texas burn its last TO.

But what I give them credit for is that they had plenty of TOs at the end to talk about defensive strategy with the players. That is quality coaching. I do hope Napier can figure out the offensive rhythm to stop burning them willy nilly.

Well, that and run hurry-up offense when you have to.

Kalen DeBoer is only in his 2nd season as the HC at Washington and 4th overall as a HC. How is it possible they can be so good?

    26th rated composite talent roster.

He has been a head coach at several schools for the past eight years with a record of 90 & 11. It only took CBN two years to loose fourteen games and he makes three million less a year than CBN.

    Washington looks impressive.
Didn't know cause I haven't seen them play this year.
From the beginning of the game they looked like the better team to me.
I think they beat Michigan, I think it is their year.
    Penix is dynamic!

I was most impressed with 2 things yesterday: #1 Michael Penix and his wide receivers, #2 Michigan's defense. Should be a great match-up that I hope the Huskies win.

A very good offensive coordinator with a vertical passing game that sticks daggers in the heart of the opposing teams defense. Not throwing behind the line of scrimmage….

The accuracy of of Penix on his long passes was amazing, as was the ability of his receivers to make excellent catches in traffic.

The guy has won at every level he has been. A good candidate at UF if needed. a coach that get his team to play tough and fundamentally good football. And has ahown how to leverage the portal.

    Penix reminded me of Vince Young, and yesterday's game, of the '05 championship bt USC v Texas (well rounded team vs all world QB);

Michigan's defense played like a top shelf SEC Def. Offesnse win games; Defenses with championships.

Hence my money is on Michigan shutting down Penix--not completely, but enough, while Wash D not going to hold Michigan O below 30.

    Ad Michigan.

Stop reminding us of these kind of facts, it’s already depressing me that in 9 months I’m going to have to watch it all over again

No passes behind the line of scrimmage was glaring. Short passes to te’s or receivers were across the line of scrimmage. Someone who calls the plays knows timing, vertical passing game and when to run. Not just TOP. Ugggh

Takes time to make those passes. Michigan's DL most likely going to have Penix running for his life.

Except that Vince Young was never much of a passer, more of a flinger. He certainly did take over the game vs USC though.

Funny, I was derided, on this board, when I predicted that Cam Newton would be better than Vince Young.

Technically he hasn’t been a HC for the past 8yrs, only 4. He was the HC at a small NAIA school (now Div II) the University of Sioux Falls from 05-09. DeBoer had a record of 67–3 and won three NAIA national championships in 2006, 2008, and 2009 and a runner-up appearance in 2007. Very impressive.

    1997 Sioux Falls (WR)
    1998–1999 Washington HS (SD)(assistant)
    2000–2004 Sioux Falls (OC)
    2005–2009 Sioux Falls
    2010–2013 Southern Illinois (OC/WR)
    2014–2016 Eastern Michigan(OC/QB)
    2017–2018 Fresno State (OC/QB)
    2019 Indiana (OC/QB)
    2020–2021 Fresno State
    2022–present Washington
