I hope in the future we can build the type of culture and team loyalty that Georgia and Missouri demonstrated this bowl season. Missouri had one player opted out Georgia zero. And look at their results. Then take FSU with half their team out and look at their results. Got to get back to playing for your brothers with team spirit!
I like this sentiment but the fundamental problem is there is more risk than reward for the top players. Until that math changes we'll continue to see opt outs.
Bowers opted out. They say it was his ankle but he came back after 2 games to play in the regular season. He could have played but chose not to.
I say this about the transfer setup and it works here. Is isn't about "loyalty" to your college team, it is all about what does the NFL do? If the player is a consensus Top 10 talent, I am not sure playing in a game is a wise decision. BUT if your team is in the playoffs, you play. End of conversation. The Joe Miltons who declare for the draft and opt out, you don't draft them because they lack toughness. THEN you will see the "loyalty" back.
Fans put way too much emotion into meaningless bowl games. We would all kill to have the regular seasons FSU and Ohio State had. They’re not failures.
When coaches stop processing out players they recruited and brought in than fans can get upset about opt outs. Loyalty goes both ways.
#FakeNews The Bulldogs have 18 players in the NCAA transfer portal, excluding freshman cornerback Daniel Harris. Kirby Smart noted on Friday that Harris isn’t in the portal despite his announcement on Christmas Day. Place kicker Jared Zirkel is listed here, but he will take care of Georgia’s kickoff duties on Saturday. OL Joshua Miller (Syracuse) WR Yazeed Haynes (Syracuse) LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson (Kentucky) OLB Marvin Jones Jr. (Florida State) CB A.J. Harris QB Brock Vandagriff (Kentucky) WR Jackson Meeks (Syracuse) OL Aliou Bah (Maryland) LB E.J. Lightsey (Georgia Tech) WR Mekhi Mews CB Nyland Green (Purdue) LB Xavian Sorey Jr. (Arkansas) OL Austin Blaske (North Carolina) OLB Darris Smith (Missouri) WR Logan Johnson DE C.J. Madden (Purdue) DL Jonathan Jefferson (SMU) PK Jared Zirkel
I know you have to look at it individually, in case of a career ending injury in a bowl game, but in the last 20-30 years, how many high draft prospects have had their careers end in a bowl game and then they were not drafted? I think I remember maybe one, (can't think of his name though). Maybe opting out is the financially smart thing to do. Just think of all the great players who finished their college careers playing in their team's last game. What's going to happen when a high draft prospect's team plays a dud team during the end of the regular season?..... Are they going to start sitting out those games also? I agree the system is broke so something(s) will have to change soon as this can start a negative domino effect for the college game. We as fans, have been the main driving force for the popularity of this sport in the last 20-30 years. GO GATORS!!!!
Absolutely but people will continue to push their narrative. Georgia had complete buy in other than the 15 plus portal outs!
