Sure we do because this environment sucks. However fans aren't dumb, if professional athletes think we care their employer returns their lack of loyalty they can go pound sand. They're not playing because they give a single poop about the school, fans, their teammates, coaches, or anything outside of attention and money. Who cares if they ride pine or get the same treatment right back.

Don't expect to be a professional athlete and get treated like a student. Personally I hope schools start releasing employees that don't perform and escort them from the buildings.

I care about the university so I do still watch but I'd prefer any nil player simply go elsewhere.

That’s a fair point, and I’m probably making too personal an assumption of DJ. But he is somewhat of a poster boy of the NIL era. The top rated QB a few years ago starts his career at national champ Clemson, and it seems that just when the going gets rough he moves on somewhere else. Idk, I just don’t like that style. Call me old old fashioned, but I think there’s something admirable about finishing what you started.

This is the correct take. Imagine paying literally millions of dollars for some high school kid to play football at a university you attended. Kid wouldn't stop to say hi to you on the street. Doesn't give a single poo about the school or team. Doesn't care about wins or losses just attention.

These are the same types of people who use 'we' when talking about the team and are just trying to vicariously live through teenagers who would be embarrassed to be seen with them except for money. So many other productive places the money could go, choosing to spend it this way says a lot about who you are as a person in my opinion.

Can't be surprised when sinners be sinnin'! The way of the world since Adam and Eve.

It's a shame for the college game we loved from days gone by, but there is no reset button in this game!

When I was a young man, someone told me to never fall in love with a whore.
First of all what ever attention and good feelings she gave you was not given.
    It was purchased.
Second, as soon the business deal between you two was completed, she was looking for another customer.
Third, sometimes the gift that you paid for can unfortunately be the one that can be the one that keeps giving. Next time use a condom and be more careful on who you pick to ride with.

Now it is my turn to pass this advice to you. Never fall in love with a college football team.

Ohio State quarterback was not very good and Syracuse is what is on the table for him. greed is definitely part of the problem, but it started with the schools greediness. Now they are having a tug-of-war with no rules. I see no other solution other than what every other sport in the world does, and has a collective bargaining agreement and contracts. This is professional football, and has been for quite some time

I’m not sure about him. He may have been pushed out at Clemson as he did not play all that well. The league Oregon State plays in has fallen apart so he does have a legitimate excuse for wanting to go somewhere else. But then again, they are mostly just mercenaries. That may be the one thing Florida is doing right is not getting into bidding wars which leads to more of the guys that hit the portal every year. They need to be paid and paid what they’re worth but they’re also needs to be team chemistry. I think Florida State Building through the portal ended up a 60 point loss because of exactly that . Georgia and Alabama I think have much better team chemistry by building through high school and trying to keep the nucleus of their team together.

It’s definitely a two-way street Skink. The schools tried to hold all the cards and all the money and it has backfired on them miserably. What many fans want is Ivy League football but nobody wants to watch that and it does not pay the bills. The players are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay them.

When we pay $350 a ticket to sit on the sideline and watch, we do matter. We fans are the ones that makes it all possible for the coaches and the players and the schools. What the FSU players did to the FSU fans is pretty lame

While I do see some type of CBA as the only likely pathway to making things better, the athletes have no reason to negotiate one right now. I don’t think the schools have the balls to lock them out and force them to the table.

The athletes weren’t ever paid before, so sitting out a year means little to them if they get locked out. A year or two of no football for the schools would have athletic departments across the country folding up shop.

    Accurate.

The mega-donor I’m connected to (loosely, via proxy) supposedly considers his athletic donations to be “play money” (must be nice to have millions of play money). But even he is tired of wasting his play money on UAA mistake hire buyouts, NILs on entitled high schoolers who are as likely to not contribute/transfer/opt out as win a title, etc. There are other things in his life that he can set his money on fire for. It’s bad enough that UF is nervous about his academic donations as well.

    Oh well.

he had to move to a lesser school because he was not good enough though. His situation is a lot different than ETN

I'm sure it is play money, and yes they're free to do what they want with their money. It definitely says something about your priorities being very messed up if you're paying kids to play football with literally any amount, in my opinion.

Although I hate FSU, and they are very obnoxious fans and delusional, I don’t think they deserve that. Their fans and boosters paid the salary of those athletes that are sitting on their ass.

It’s no different than me paying $300 to see a concert. I’m paying to the seethe musicians. It cost what it cost because others are willing to pay that much.

Everybody makes it sound like the schools got rich on these guys. Most athletic departments run in the red. All those revenues go right back out the door
